No idea why they went away from that. I’m glad though

He’s had 3 at bats. You’re not walking him the first time. The second time was bases loaded, again you can’t walk him. And then 3rd at bat you’re already down 4, first hitter, no one on base, with the way the rest of the team has been hitting, no point in putting a runner on.

He’s a bona fide major-league pitcher. He was rostered. He’s not even warmed up one time. I don’t understand.

His stuff isn't great and Mariners can hit homers. They might be scared of the matchup.

Then truth be told he shouldn’t have been on the roster if that is the case.

They’re probably riskier in late game situations. Also I don’t think Schneider has any confidence in Lauer - which confuses me

I’d play it safe with the regular late game leverage arms

Not sure I would describe that as playing it safe… Also, are you willing to throw Varland today AND tomorrow?
At some point, you need to use your long relievers who started games for you all year.

Honestly felt like it was more of a precaution thing in case Yesavage or another pitcher got wrecked and couldn't make it out the first and you needed someone for mopup.

Also his spot on the roster isn't that important considering the alternative was Bruihl who likely wouldn't have been used anyways.
