I mean there is a sense of irony here that he is still more closely linked to the 2018 Red Sox than any iteration of the LA Dodgers.

Kelly threw at Bregman's head on purpose, threw a few fake pickoff attempts at him again while he was at first, and taunted them after the inning. They had to suspend him. I've always thought these types of suspensions should be much longer or else guys are just going to keep doing it. 8 games is more than justified. Some people saying it's really 22 games because of the short season.... well, it's only 8 games worth of money. He's lucky it wasn't more.
Yes, but no.
IMO the Umpires have a burden of responsibility to protect players as well. The fact that Kelly was not ejected needs to be considered here too. An umpire's thought process should be in line in protect players but also keeping the Joe Kelly's of the world at bay and ensuring that they don't do anything remarkably stupid. If Kelly is tossed after buzzing Bregman's tower, none of this precipitates in this manner. Context is everything... Kelly wasn't on the roster but ejecting a Dodger after a 3-0 fastball is thrown at a player's head would have been stern but justified. For anyone else, that might be way overboard. But again, context is king.
I am definitely in the camp of 8 games for Kelly is ridiculous. But let's be completely honest, here. The MLB HAD to make an example of the first guy to go so far out of the way to set a precedent. The Astros are cheaters and will be thrown at for years to come but Kelly wasn't even remotely implicit about what he was doing.
I would hope he gets the suspension reduced for anywhere between 4-6 games tbh. Also, Lance Mccullers is a tool.
Kelly "buzzing Bregman's tower" was by far the most egregious thing he did, so it makes no difference that the umps didn't toss him after the fact.

Re: Around the MLB 2019
Was about to post that exact thing, Schad. Nobody can predict a pandemic but that trade was already more lopsided than people realized. Now? Kay looks like he could be a mid-rotation starter for a long while, SWR is a top flight prospect, and the Mets got to finish 3rd and then have Stroman sit out for the season.

And that's pretty much it, from the Mets' side: no one could predict the pandemic, but they put all of their eggs into one basket that was pretty questionable from the off.

**** your asterisk.

9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Those Indians pitchers that broke protocol were incredibly selfish. And Clevinger a huge coward for not coming forward. Especially with the health of Francona and Carrasco.

Re: Around the MLB 2019
If they want to execute it in something other than MLB's usual slapdick fashion, those discussions need to go from preliminary to concrete in a hurry. The current plan has the playoffs starting two days after the end of the regular season: that makes a bubble functionally impossible. You want a bubble? You had better plan for several days of no baseball.
The good news is that, if you put that bubble in a warm-weather state, you don't really need to worry about the calendar. You can spend a week with the players in stasis prior to the playoffs; hell, you can spend a month, it doesn't matter, December baseball's fine if you''re playing in Arizona or something.
But it's still a major logistical undertaking: you need to have venues, accommodations, procedures in place for when players can/cannot leave the bubble, plans for what happens if a couple players test positive, etc. And that needs to be in place with weeks to spare, so that you have the time to pivot if necessary. If MLB dithers and then tries to throw something together with less than a month to go before the playoffs, bubble baseball is liable to be just as disastrous as non-bubble baseball.

The Cardinals, now more than two weeks removed from playing baseball, will theoretically need to cram in 55 games in 44 days.

Time for some 4 inning triple headers.

I still don't get the on field bullpens.
Why don't they just put up a little wall to enclose it?

Re: Around the MLB 2019
Well, Thom Brennmann (the long-time Reds/Fox announcer and one-time voice of Microsoft Baseball 2000, the most gloriously glitchy sports game ever created) just ended his career. Caught on a hot mic referring to some place as "the [homophobic slur] capital of the world" in the sort of fashion that makes it abundantly clear that such is a part of his every-day vernacular.
He also had to call a home run in the midst of effectively announcing the end of his career, which is just a spectacularly weird moment.
