Didn’t we try to get Yamamoto?

Yeah.It was a longshot, almost like Ohtani. They also tried to sign the Dodger closer Roki Sasaki. They did manage to sign a good Korean pitcher though.

https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/blue-jays-make-first-foray-into-korea-with-seojun-moon/

Back in January, the Blue Jays’ pursuit of Roki Sasaki prompted them to take on $11 million of the money owed to Myles Straw in order to get $2 million in international bonus pool space from the Guardians.

While Toronto did not sign the Japanese sensation, who opted for Dodgers, Straw became a valuable extra outfielder for the American League champions, while the extra bonus pool money landed them Seojun Moon, an intriguing South Korean righthander.

The 18-year-old signed for $1.5 million in September and was the Blue Jays’ first significant foray into the Korean amateur market.

If they took pitches instead, Yamamoto would have had a 12 K game. Maybe you get him out of there in the 7th/8th, but being on the defensive and trying to squeak out a close game win probably isn't the recipe for this team. It's not like we have a shutdown bullpen either.

I don't know about that...he was behind in almost every count until the 5th inning. Or maybe the 4th? I can't remember.

Plus....the bullpen vs bullpen matchup is the ONLY matchup that they don't completely dominate us on paper. So that's the exact thing we need.

Their lineup is clearly not better than the Jays.

Their batting lineup? Yes it is.

A lights out stud makes such a difference like a hot goalie in playoff hockey.. that stud pitches 2 games and can come out of bullpen if there is a game seven..its like the other team is down 0-2 from the get-go and has to win 4 out of the other 5 games to win the word series..we have to win 3 out of 4 games he won't start..

Yamamoto just is him. Ridiculous pitcher.

Looks like we may have to beat him to win this series now so gotta hope to somehow get his pitch count up in a possible game 6.

I really liked our chances until that quick 5th inning. That changed the entire game.

But a split was always a good outcome. Just need to win one in LA. Getting to a game 6 in Toronto was always a good scenario for us. This was an extremely close game that was won on the margins. I was expecting to get blown out so it all bodes well imo.

As everyone knows.....pitch count is everything going forward. And we got 3 chances at getting into their bullpen.

Gotta win 2 in LA with Yam pitching game 6 in Tor.

I really don't think it was that type of game. We threatened in all three of the first innings. This wasn't some sort of "we can't score on that pitcher" type of performance aka Andrew Miller in 2016. Or something equivalent to a Skubal game.

We had him on the ropes. The two quick innings mid-game were the difference.

He got 20 straight batters out on a ridiculously hot offense

I mean he threw 70% strikes, so it couldn't have been that many batters he was behind.

We haven't won a game this postseason scoring less than 4 runs. That's why I'm saying I don't like our chances of trying to win a pitcher's duel type low scoring game.

Taking 2 in LA will be very tough. This will either end for us in 6 or we somehow push it to 7. Very likely, we manage only 1 win in LA and will need to solve Yama or go home in Game 6.

When it comes to the bullpen It's not debatable to be honest. The Dodgers have the worst bullpen this post season. The only guy they could depend on is Roki Sasaki. Every other reliever has a 7 ERA and above except Vesia and he is off the roster for personal reasons. The only reason they have not been as exposed yet is because the starting pitching has been great. It's why it's imperative the Blue Jays get to the dodgers bullpen early.

We had 6 baserunners in the first 3 innings. He pitched a great game. But it was not the type of thing where you would say his next game is an automatic loss. That kind of projection is when a guy goes through a game without pitching out of trouble or under stress/pressure.

Can we not have Bo at least DH on the second game of back to backs? Springer's knee that cooked?

We had 5 base runners the entire game, one of which was an infield pop up. Seems pretty unrealistic for any pitcher to go a full game without having to get out of any trouble at all.

He’s thrown 2 complete games in a row in the playoffs against great hitting teams in an era most starting pitchers go 6 innings maximum. The first time it’s been done in a quarter century.

Historically good pitcher.
