Caught on a hot mic referring to some place as "the [homophobic slur] capital of the world" in the sort of fashion that makes it abundantly clear that such is a part of his every-day vernacular.

He also had to call a home run in the midst of effectively announcing the end of his career, which is just a spectacularly weird moment.

What a tool.

No Thom, that IS who you are, because you said it.

So here's an interesting story. Apparently Fernando Tatis Jr. broke an unwritten rule in baseball of swinging at a 3-0 pitch to hit a grand slam in the 8th inning of a blowout. Not only was the other team salty, but his own manager didn't have his back in the press conference. Kid hits 2 homers for 7 RBI on the day and has to apologize for being good at the game while feeling bad about it.

How about don't throw 3 junk pitches in a row and then serve up a meatball? I can accept not stealing bases when you're up big, but now you're not supposed to swing either? Brutal.

This is the most Manfredian move imaginable. The Mets didn't want to play. Manfred tried to force them to walk off the field, only to come back an hour later?

Manfred is a terrible commissioner.

Manfred combines Selig's sliminess with Stern's instinct to crush anything approaching player agency with Bettman's slick incompetence. Truly, the Voltron of crap commissioners.

Apparently Jeff Wilpon made a suggestion to delay the game by an hour and the GM got confused and blamed Manfred. Just issued an apology.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Is that worse? "Whoops, I confused the moronic actions of the Mets owner with something you'd do" is a low blow.

2020 MLB Trade Deadline Tracker: A complete list of all transactions - Sportsnet.ca

San Diego Padres receive: 1B Mitch Moreland

Boston Red Sox receive: OF Jeisson Rosario, INF Hudson Potts

Moreland, who turns 35 next week, led the Red Sox in batting average (.328), home runs (eight) and RBIs (21). He is also eligible to be a free agent as early as 2021, though his contract carries a $3-million team option for that season.

Playing for a Boston team that is well out of contention made Moreland a prime trade target, and he lands with a Padres team that already leads the majors in OPS (.836).

Atlanta Braves receive: P Tommy Milone

Baltimore Orioles receive: Two players to be named later

Milone was the opening-day starter for the fading Orioles, who got off to a surprisingly hot start but have since sunken back to fourth in the American League East. Now, evidently, they are sellers.

The 33-year-old was 1-4 with a 3.99 ERA in six starts for Baltimore this season. He had a chance to impress his new club right away on Sunday, making his debut start against the Philadelphia Phillies, but he allowed seven runs in just 2 1/3 innings.
