On DJ Davis:

I'm not sure how it's possible to strike out 96 times in 63 games. Also;
I'm not sure how it's possible to be 7 of 19 in steal attempts when you're supposedly one of the fastest players in all of baseball.

Boomer Collins, Ryan McBroom, Rowdy Tellez. Man, one of these guys has to make it to the majors if only for his name.

Anyway, McBroom had a two run homer for Vancouver...

You also have to like the headline potential in "Pompey erupts"...

So at what point does Brad Glenn cool off? He's over 100 PA's into his AAA stint and his OPS is still around 1.000.

I'd almost be for him getting the next call up and see if he can stay hot for a few games. Pillar has been hitting well too.

When he stops hitting .457 on balls in play. Unfortunately, Glenn's components have never boded well for his chances of stepping up to the bigs...doesn't walk enough, doesn't make enough contact. They've improved marginally over time, but still aren't likely to get to a workable level.

The Jays raised some eyebrows signing Lane Thomas for almost double his slot money, but I guess they felt they had something special in the fifth round.

He's 2-3 so far today with the GCL Jays, including a double and a triple. Hitting .571 as I write this.

Speaking of the GCL team, BP had a write up on Gudino in the monday morning ten pack.

Glowing reviews on actions and arms - long term future at SS
Said he looked overpowered at the plate given that he's a 150 lb 17 year old. Good projection though with a nice line drive swing.

I dont see what "raised eyebrows"...Thomas is a multi-tool kid who FELL to the 5th round and who's talent was probably more in line to that of a 2nd/3rd rounder. Rumor has it that there was a team that was considering drafting him in the Supplemental 1st for underslot.

Interesting Bluefield tidbits on 'Around the Nest' podcast this week.

- Tinoco hits FB 97 according to Bluefield pitching coach Antonio Caceres
- Alford
- is a freak athlete that just crushes the ball.
- will be playing for 1 month then heading to Ole Miss
- did a vertical leap and cleared 40 inches
- Alford said nothing beats playing football in front of 80,000 fans. (including baseball by the sounds of it)

Pretty much. Three batters put the ball in play over three innings.

Would love to see some first hand comments for how he looked in general.

Yeltsin Gudino, SS, Toronto Blue Jays (Rookie GCL)
Gudino is getting his first taste of professional baseball in America this summer with the GCL Blue Jays. He was a consensus top 10 international free agent during last year’s July 2nd signing period, and at only 17 years old his game is still very raw. After seeing him twice last week it's pretty clear why he was such a sought-after prospect. Gudino's 150 pound frame looks every bit that of a normal 17-year-old kid, but when you watch him in the field, the term normal no longer applies. His actions are very smooth and his ability to range to the right or left really stand out. He showed the ability to glide to the ball and get in front of it when off the bat it looked as if the ball was destined to be a base hit—or at the very least a tough backhanded play would be needed. To complement his excellent range, Gudino showed off a strong arm with a quick release that remained accurate while he was making throws on the run. His hands are as soft as they are sure and he looks silky smooth on transfers. The skills and future frame are there for him to remain at shortstop. At the plate, Gudino comes back to earth as normal 17-year-old kid. He showed good bat speed and bat control, but with the lack of strength, especially in his upper body, his bat was getting suffocated by average velocity. The swing itself is level and should produce a good amount of line drive contact, but until he bulks up and his hands and wrists get stronger, there won't be much power. With a ton of projection left and a good base of sound fundamentals and tools, Gudino will be another Blue Jays prospect who will join the conversations involving Barreto and Urena. –Chris King

He plays baseball for like a month during the NCAA Football offseason...it has pretty much no effect on his football future.
