2020 MLB Draft Nick Frasso has been a revelation in his pro-debut season. After rehabbing for all of last year from a TJ, Frasso enters 2022 guns blazing. Armed with a sinker that can T99mph, he pairs his FB with a high spin 86mph CH and a high velo 88mph SL, he was virtually untouchable in low-A. Now promoted to Hi-A, Frasso continued his dominance by pitching a 4IP 9 strikeout gem in his Hi-A debut game. 2nd game was meh but in his first Vancouver home game, the stuff that Frasso showed did not disappoint.

Contrary to the normal high velo FB, Frasso sat around mid 90s with his FB but it was a bat missing FB regardless of the heat. With its cutting movement, hitters are forced to swing whenever Frasso paints it on the inside part of the strike zone. Pairing with his FB, Frasso relied heavily on his CH. Fangraph Eric Longenhagen once said of the 2 secondaries that he saw earlier this season, the CH development is far behind his SL. Since then, Frasso has demonstrated just how devastating his CH is since then. in Low-A, Baseball Savant has tracked that of the 33 CH that he threw, it has a total CS+Whiff of 55% which is pretty insane. Last night, with the lack of SL command, Frasso leaned on his CH against both LHH and RHH and it was super effective. To understand why it's so good, I believe it has to do with 3 elements: 1) There's a tremendous lateral/vertical movement on the CH (30.6v, -20h). To put some perspective here, the h-profile is similar to Patrick Sandoval (30.6v) and the v-profile is similar to Devin Williams (18.8v); 2) CH is a high spin pitch (baseball savant tracked that it has an avg of 2548 RPM) with around 11mph separation with his FB and finally; 3) Frasso's sinker has a natural cutting lateral movement that tunnls well with his CH. Adding those together you get a mean FB/CH combo that's rivals even Tiedemann's FB/CH combo.

It would be really nice if Jays FO let him go beyond 4IPs (capped around 56P) this season because i'm excited to see what he can do when you stretch him out and have him pitch against lineup 3 times over. However, considering he's only 1yr removed from his TJ surgery, Jays are probably going to continue the 4IP cap to play it safe like how they treated with Pearson in 2019. Once the calendar year turns over, he will be unleashed and hopefully, the Jays get another potential mid rotation starter or a shut down reliever.

Hayden Juenger had a nice debut with Buffalo. Two scoreless innings with just one walk and 2K.

I wonder how the Jays brass assesses Barger. It would be ironic if he’s viewed well enough to loosen their grip on Martinez. Yes, they have lots of other infield prospects, but Barger has been a revelation. Is he for real? He’s even lowered his K rate a bit at NH. They don’t need an SS at the major league level, but they have to protect Groshans, Martinez and Barger for the next Rule 5 draft, so moving one in the next 48 hours seems plausible and Martinez would get them a controllable player, and a really big fish if he’s part of a package.

Badger’s not quite a unicorn. He was first or second in a number of offensive categories in the Northwest League when he was promoted but this season is a step up in production for him.

ADJ is Rule 5 eligible in the offseason, I believe, which likely explains why the Dodgers were okay with giving him up.

I'd be a bit cautious looking at his numbers, because the California League (where he did a lot of that damage) is known as a very high-offense environment, and Rancho Cucamonga is one of the more hitter-happy locales in the CALL. The walk rate is a very good sign, but he also strikes out quite a bit.

There's definitely quite a bit of upside, but the power will need to be legit, and the K:BB will need to hold up as he advances out of A ball.
