My main focus for prospects is on 1) McGowan and can he salvage his career and 2) Snider (or Snyder?)

When does Snyder start playing? I am really interested in him as well. I remember after the draft some people were comparing his swing/ability to Thome.

Snider will play as soon as weather allows Lansing to play a game. The season has started but 3 games have already been rescheduled or cancelled.

He was optioned to Syracuse though I believe he is actually in Dunedin attempting to reclaim his fastball.

On Monday night, Majewski had the only 3 hit game in a losing cause for NH. Kratz recorded his 2nd straight 2 hit game. 2 hits also for Chip Cannon. On the mound, it was a rough start for Kyle Yates while Joey Matumoto threw 2 scoreless ininngs with 3 K's.

Syracuse also lost as Ismael Ramirez had an ordinary start. Jamie Vermilyea had another excellent 2 innings+ in relief while Curtis Thigpen had 2 hits.

Dunedin also went down - 2 hit games for Hatch, Jerolman, Peralta and Kreuzer. The only mound appearance worthy of mention was 2.1 relief innings by Kristian Bell - no runs, 3K's. Isenberg the losing hurler.

Lansing finally swung into action with a win. Zach Dials was the winning pitcher giving up 3 runs in 5 innings. A shutout relief inning by each of: Pinto, Overbey and Phillips. At the plate Soffit, Bell, Snider and Pettway were the 2 hit men. One of Bell's was a homer.

McGowan had another very good start tonight for Syracuse.

5 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K, 0 HR

The game is still going on as I'm typing this, but McGowan has thrown 96 pitches, so I'm guessing that's the end of his night. Still needs to be more efficient, but 17 K's and only 3 walks in 10 innings so far is very encouraging.

Yeah, good numbers other than the high pitch counts/low innings of work.

Romero got rocked today.

4.1 IP. 7 H. 4 ER. 4 BB. 1 SO. 1 HR

Pitched in cold weather which probably affected him, but I'll go on and admit I NEVER liked this pick. Complete waste of a 6th overall pick.

Another 2 hit game from Adam Lind with Syracuse. Same for Sal Fasano. For NH, 2 hits apiece for Wayne Lydon, Rob Cosby and John Schneider. Brian Pettway continued his hot start with 2 of Lansings's 3 hits against West Michigan. Nathan Starner followed up a strong spring with a decent start, giving up 2 runs over 5 innings. Let's hope for better all round results tonight.

Is Lind working on his defence at all?

I would hope so. The big team needs a backup outfielder ASAP. For the time being, I would be tempted to give Jeff Duncan a try.

Well its pretty apparent after last night that Stairs just does not have the wheels to play in the OF and should only serve as DH/PH. Having Hinske around would be a big help, but there was a huge defensive drop off with Stairs in the lineup last night. A couple balls that dropped in front of him Reed would have had the wheels to reach.

Good news and bad news from the farm. Great pitching outing for David Purcey in a winning effort for New Hampshire. Purcey went 6 1/3 innings of one run ball with 7 K's. Both Joe Matumoto and Jean Machi were effective in relief. Outfielder Aaron Mathews had a 3 hit game. On the bad side, Brandon Magee was shelled again in a losing effort for Dunedin. I will spare the details as they are not pleasant. This was his 2nd consecutive disastrous outing. It appears he is in over his head at this level. Either that or he is hiding an injury.

Dunedin split the doubleheader by winning the niightcap behind the fine pitching of Aaron Tressler who struck out 8 while walking no-one in 4 innings. Cory Patton led the offense in a 2-1 game with 2 hits.

aligator good work with the updates! much appreciated

We need Mcgowan to keep rolling. After seeing Okha, Chasin and Towers pitch this year we need another plus arm in the rotation. All 3 of these guys throw as hard as 10 year old girls. Eventually this will catch up to us

I agree that better starting pitching is needed at the major league level but whether any is available this year remains to be seen.

So far tonight in the minors, the two most interesting performances have come from pitchers. At AAA Syracuse, reliever Brian Wolfe continued his totally outstanding season by going 2+ innings while surrendering one hit and striking out 4. Jamie Vermilyea had another perfect relief inning as well. At Lansing, Kyle Ginley was the starter, going five innings, one run, 5 K's.
The only noteworthy plate performance was from Adam Lind with 2 hits in the 1st game of a doubleheader. In the second game , the Chiefs won behind Josh Banks, 6 1/3 innins 2 runs. Two noteworthy hitting lines - Ryan Roberts with 3 hits including 2 homers(4 RBI) and J F Griffin with 2 hits, 3 RBI.

For the season so far at Syracuse, Russ Adams is hitting only .194. The 3 prospects of interest over .300 are Roberts, Lind, and Griffin. Thigpen is close at .295.

After watching Stairs so far this year I have no clue why Lind can't take his spot. Everyone complains about Stairs's defence but he is horrible in the OF. I'd wager he's just as bad as Lind.

So why not cut Stairs, and bring up Lind. I'm sure Lind would get enough bats(which is the big concern about bringing him up).

- Reed isn't/shouldn't play 162 games so he'll get AB's at LF
- FT will need days off so he'll get AB's at DH
- When Rios and Wells take the odd day off Lind will also get time then
- Not to mention PH duties.

If they don't want to bring Lind up yet, Jeff Duncan would be a better option that stairs. He would at least give good defence and could serve as a pinch runner. Stairs is only a pinch hitter.

Anyone think that maybe the Stairs thing was a bit promotional by the higher ups to get a Canadian on the squad?
