It will be interesting to see what the Jays do with Rainer Nunez, who lis having himself a time in the Dominican League after a fine season at Dunedin/Vancouver. The big league team doesn't need a right handed power hitting 1B, they have one of those, and while it's highly unlikely they lose Nunez in the 2022 Rule 5 draft, a strong showing at New Hampshire would certainly tempt a team in the 2023 draft.

Tommy John surgery is literally a right of passage these days. Usually makes you stronger. Ain't no thang.

At the same time, we've been pretty unlucky with highly touted drafted pitching prospects.... (Manoah the huge exception).

Just over the past 2-4 years,,, Pearson (literally top 3 in all baseball) really crashed, Pardinho looked electric until he's completely dropped from our list. Kloff and Van Eyk,, -- both in the top 5-8 of our pipeline at one point, have badly fallen. Even Frasso and Palmer, who were drafted in the same year to add more depth, have lost all their lustre (I'd not give up completely on Palmer)... Irv freaking Carter was taken early!!!lol. But short of Alek and Ricky, all our top-end minor-league pitching potential has evaporated. Obviously arms are a gamble, but we've either been bad at drafting or very unlucky. Barriera buck this trend!! :uhoh:

He'll be traded for a back end starter at the deadline. :(

Nunez just has that look of a big bat 1B/DH

Now has five homers in the Dominican

I expect Ricky Tiedemann to make the majors by July '23. Assuming there is an opening in the rotation.

They first have to ratchet up his innings/pitches unless they plan to start him as a bulk reliever, because three innings or 50 pitches - whichever came first - seemed to be his imposed limit at NH even if he was pitching lights out.

Simeon Woods-Richardson had a great year in Minnesota's Minor League system. Whereas Berrios led the AL in hits and ER given up. Interesting to see how Woods-Richardson fairs this upcoming season --might really put a that trade to shame.

Here are the Jays prospect all-stars - best at each position. Obviously a subjective view from MLB Pipeline.

But it recognizes some of the much-watch prospects for 2023, guys with real potential to reach the majors (although it is disheartening that Casey Lawrence, 35, was the best RHP.

another guy to watch is Robert Robertis, a 19 year old outfielder who was promoted from Dun to Vancouver when Dunedin's schedule finished, then on to New Hampshire for a few at bats. Hit two homers in 17 ABs. With Dasan Brown and Gabriel Martinez, Robertis provides some hope the Jays can actually develop an outfielder.

Rainer Nunez is one of potential unicorns for 2023. A power hitting first base RHB, not exactly what we lack at the major league level, but you never know. Just turned 22, he excelled at two levels in 2022, and was the HR leader in the Dominican League this winter - and its ROY. If you wanted to order up a guy who looks like a power hitting 1B, this guy looks like he's been sent over from Central Casting - 6'3", 190, with a HR swing a little like Edwin's. He could start at Vancouver and New Hampshire, but could easily get to the latter this coming season.
