Ah, April... Buffalo now rained out for the third day in a row, at home - although the issue is likely more wet grounds. Home opener now tomorrow, a doubleheader.

We’ve cashed in all our chips. Time to get the dip
Is it a safe guess to say our system will rank somewhere in the low 29’es?

We're probably in the 20s currently, yeah. Tiedemann and Barger are legit prospects, and we have a variety of interesting low-minors guys, but it'll probably take breakouts from the 2022 draftees (or Tiedemann being a destroyer of worlds in the upper minors) for us to ascend beyond that.

**** your asterisk.

After two games, Tucker Toman seems like he could be one.

A pair of 2-1 wins for Buffalo today. Yosver Zulueta started the first game, went 3, scoreless, 1H with 6K
Here are the six K. Fastball velocity was a tick off, not surprising for early season and after a week off from rain delays, but slider was butter

I can't imagine Lopez will be in Buffalo long. He's performing well, and I'm surprised he didn't make the big club out for spring training. He's really forcing the issue, which is what you like to see...
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Not a lot of room for him. Lopez is a 2B primary who can play some outfield, doesn't have a lot of power, but gets on base at a decent clip and has above-average speed. He's competing with Biggio, Merrifield and Espinal, all of whom are 2B primaries who can play some outfield, don't have enormous power, get on base at a decent clip and are somewhere between average-to-good baserunners.
And unfortunately, I can't say with any confidence that he's better than any of the other three. Probably the first callup in the event of an injury (particularly an OF), but he's a casualty of the fact that we actually have a good major league bench for once.

**** your asterisk.

He's not a world beating prospect by any means, but you're right that he's not clearly better than any of those three right now. What surprised me was the Jays going out of organization at the last minute to pick up Luplow - who I don't view as a meaningful upgrade on our internal options - instead of rolling with a guy like Lopez. Maybe they want Lopez to get more playing time.

Re: 2022 Minor League/Prospects Discussion Thread
There ain't no such thing as a pitching prospect, and obviously I worry that he's throwing upper 90s immediately after returning from injury, but...Tiedemann is a monster. 3 innings. 2 hits (both singles). No walks. 35:14 K:BB. Got 13 swings and misses. Recorded all nine outs by strikeout.

**** your asterisk.

Going to have to make room for him at some point. Most likely 2024. Based on talent, mid 2023. LHP who dominate like this rarely miss at MLB level.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Re: 2022 Minor League/Prospects Discussion Thread
Tiedemann's second start was significantly worse: 3.2 IP, a mere 6 Ks, 1 hit, 2 walks, 1 ER. I mean, that's still quite good, but the trend is downward!
Through two appearances, he has a K/9 of 20.3.

He had a bit of control trouble in the first inning, but the contact wasn't strong. The one run was assisted by Dominquez stealing second and third - holding runners is something he can work on because the catchers in AA can't throw out reasonably fast baserunners.
What was noteworthy is that he was strong after the first inning and got up to 58 pitches. His limit was 60. It will be interesting to see how fast and how far they raise his pitch count. Coming out of the spring, he missed starts because of a minor shoulder issue, so his first outing had a 50 pitch limit.
Also to watch, today, Adam Macko makes his first start for Vancouver.

Barger's K rate is over 30%. No doubting the power and bat speed, but I really do think he's going to need to simplify his approach to succeed in the majors. The high leg kick and elaborate setup just makes him that much more vulnerable if his timing is out of whack.

Re: 2022 Minor League/Prospects Discussion Thread
At least for one night, Adam Kloffenstein rose from the prospect dead with a really nice outing: 5IP, 2H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 8K. Had a low enough pitch count to keep going, but game went into a rain delay

I haven't known much about him until this offseason or so. I always saw him as a Chapman replacement type. That being said, we all know prospects are essentially lottery tickets.
I know this is the MIL prospects chat, but do you see any possibility of Chapman returning on another deal?
