I really hope they hang on to Norris. He's the one guy I really would be upset about dealing.

SRF with 3 strikeouts and 3 groundouts in 2 innings of work.
Nick Wells followed it up a clean inning with 2 hits given up but 1 K and no runs.
Lane Thomas playing 3B tonight also had a hit.

edit: ^ wow just beat me to it

Well, I didn't have the Wells line or the Thomas bit.

Daniel Norris was just lifted in the 1st inning (I'm asssuming on pitch count). He'd given up a HR, 2 singles and 2 walks while tossing 33 pitches. Damn.

Starting to see a bit more pop from Dean... he has a double tonight and had two homers in the past four games. He still is striking out too much, but it's good to see the pop starting to come.

And then Dean goes and does this! We really need to see some power produced in our system. Hopefully Dean can become that guy. I was hopeful Nay would have a breakout this year.

What a guy! Love the long-term thinking and commitment to the organization. No, you will not trade me, Alex. I'll sabotage my trade value and make no one else want me.

Rowdy Tellez reached in 3 out of 4 PA tonight. AVG up to .117 and OBP up to .222

Urena was 2-4 with a 2B, 3B and a BB. We have some good low level middle infield guys with the Barreto's and Urena.

Pompey is 2-3 in the 2nd NH game AVG up to .128

I'm a bit surprised it hasn't come for Nay yet. At least not in game; I've seen a number of mentions of the displays he can put on. I think Gerry from Battersbox had specifically referred to it last year when he wrote up about extended.

I'd guess Nay's ceiling is still well ahead of Dean and it'll come eventually, but it's good to see Dean get on a roll.

Anyone have an update on Jake 'don't call me Jacob' Anderson? Jays 35th 1S pick from 2011. Last played in Bluefield on June 22nd. I couldn't find an injury update or anything on him...

Though if he did go by Maxwell Pentecost he might end up having to solve mysteries or something and that doesn't leave much time for baseball.

Or commits unspeakable acts with a silver hammer. Either way, it'll leave precious little time for more mundane things like winning MVP, hitting world series walk off homers etc....

A couple of weeks back on the Around the Nest podcast, Bluefield's broadcaster Kevin Fitzgerald said he'd be back soon. I believe it was termed lower body injury...recalling from two weeks ago so my memory is hazy. Anyhow, that was a couple weeks ago and he's still not back.

Gerry's discussion with Doug Davis mentioned that Nay really focuses on using the whole field and this is taking away from his power. Davis had instructed Nay to look to pull more in certain situations.

The rest of the article has some great insight in to some other prospects as well.

You have a point; Maxwell Pentecost might actually be better-suited for the tweedy but sadistic villain of the piece.

And I'm now warming to the idea that I could write a pulpy novel involving a minor league baseball player who finds himself enmeshed in the web of a conspiracy that goes all the way to the top. But he, like, has to unravel it in between 12 hour bus rides to Corpus Christi and ****. I'm also warming to the idea that someone else could write it and I could sue their ass for stealing it. Actually liking that one better.

**** your asterisk.

Sending Pentecost to the GCL was a joke, he should have been in Lansing if they were trying to be conservative, what the hell is the best college hitter gonna learn against those kiddies? They should have sent him to High A really and let him sink or swim, he has to be challenged against tough competition.

And Pompey goes 2-7 with a 2B in a doubleheader, he has only struck out 4 times in 46 PA's in AA, small sample size obviously but its still really good to see, we can live with him being a ground ball hitter if he makes contact at that rate and draws enough walks.

It's been explained - he's waiting for his passport, and when it arrives he will join Vancouver, so soon. "Sending him to the GCL" when the team basically plays out of the same Dunedin complex where he's been working out doesn't seem like a big deal. He caught his first game, and DH'd last night to give Matt Morgan time behind the plate.

It could be that Alex personally told D-No not to hit the strike zone. In my fantasy, the other team will now say "OK, we'll take McGuire instead."

Pompey finding his groove, with a pair of hits so far today, including a HR, and 3 RBIs.

His string of bad luck may be finally turning as he had a couple of hits yesterday as well.

Both hits today, including the homer, were off Jose Berrios as well... Not bad Mr. Pompey.

Seven hits at AA now, three for extra bases. All off righties too.

Throw in an outfield assist for good measure. I wonder what the organization's timeline is for him. If he has a good half season at NH, I could see him starting next season at Buffalo, and possibly being called up mid-season. That's optimistic of course, but so far he's handling New Hampshire pretty well. Realistically we're probably looking at 2016 at the earliest.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."
