His power numbers certainly rose. And he take quite a shot at the Jays' approach in this article

https://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/professional/birdland/trade-to-cardinals-gave-breakout-prospect-lane-thomas-freedom-to/article_4e2af254-d67b-51c1-b4e7-a22ca2ad1854.html

Thomas: The freedom to try new things. In this organization, they’re moving in the right direction with the hitting, and I think that’s something with the Blue Jays – I don’t know how to say this – are struggling with. But you can see that over the last couple of years with all the movements. You come to an organization and you’re working with a bunch of professional people. That’s just a credit to the Cardinals organization. I had actually worked with Stubby (Clapp). He was in the Blue Jays organization.

When we begin to see a history of players failing here and succeeding elsewhere I will care about meaningless comments like that.

His numbers last year were very good. He'd been one of those perennial sleeper prospects that a lot of us thought might break out in a big way, but it just never happened.

The Cards' player development system has had excellent results over the years, and it's probably not coincidental; they have a better integrated system than most, so he probably isn't wholly wrong that they've helped. Still, you see that with a lot of players...they go to a new org, find the right approach, and assume that the change of org was the primary factor. We certainly have had our fair share of players who credited our coaching with fixing what ailed them (especially at the major league level).

Joey votto popped up to first base for the first time in his career apparently. How **** is that stat?

"This marked the first time in 6,828 career plate appearances over 1,592 games that he's done this, according to MLB Stats." that's pretty **** remarkable

Yes has been going on for awhile and it gets deeper than that.

Code: Select all

Year   IF/FB
2007      4%
2008      5%
2009      5%
2010      3%
2011      5%
2012      1%
2013      2%
2014      4%
2015      3%
2016      2%
2017      2%
2018      1%
2019      9%
13 Y      3%

IF/FB stands for fly balls on the entire infield, i'd guess it includes foul territory. So "percentage of fly balls on the infield".

Naturally, they scored 7 runs. Baseball is weird.

The injuries have forced them to rely on Clint Frazier, who had started the year in AAA and seemed to be on the verge of becoming an ex-prospect (it was suggest that he'd been dangled in trade talks last year for less than premium returns). This appears to have worked to their benefit, as Frazier is mashing. How they arrange their 5+ starting outfielders if everyone is healthy is a mystery.

They just signed brad miller to a minor league deal, logan morrisson a few days ago. Mckinney or Drury would have fit their somewhere if they were not moved. Fangraphs still likes them for 92 wins today, the Rays 89 and the Red Sox 88 but 92 seems a little high for the Yankees?

Miller is exactly what they need though,I think, a middle infielder who had 30 home runs in 2016. Could also play some first base.
