I like Castro on there. I dont know if I'd personally include SRF yet. Pre-season I'd choose Nay but Dean has shown more power ability this year. If Dean can stick at 3rd that's a factor too.

Another good outing for Grayson Huffman. 3 IP/0H/0ER/1BB/3K. 8 scoreless since debuting just 1 hit and a couple walks vs 8 ks

Was Clinton Hollon's selection predicated on his salary, to save money for other signings, or was he a legit second round talent. If the latter, he can't be too far outside the top 10.

I remember at the time there were questions marks(rightly so) wrt to his health and his delivery.

I have never seen that name before. As far as I know, you just made that person up. Grayson Huffman? Sure thing.

I liked Stoeton's quote, when wesigned him. Something like..."not sure why Grayson Huffman would accept Jays offer. With a name like that he surely has his own butler already."

I got that, but I still wonder if he's a legit second rounder with great post-surgery upside, or whether he was part of a strategy to create a pool of money to go after Braetz and Tellez. I'm not saying he was ever a stiff, he was a very good HS pitcher, but was he a legit high second round talent? We assume Hoffman, despite the surgery, has a good chance of returning to the form that would have made him a top 5 pick if healthy. Can we say something similar about Hollon with respect to his draft slot? He had a stellar GCL season before flaming a bit at Bluefield. See, I'm being a pest :D

Second round was fair for Hollon. He was a 1st rounder and one of the top HS pitchers in his class early before injury pushed him down. He has legitimate upside.

He was great last year aside from the two rough outings at Bluefield. I think there is definitely reason for optimism as META4 alluded to.

From ESPN on Mar. 23, 2012:

Each week from now until the end of April, we’ll take a look at the elite Class of 2013 baseball prospects by ranking the Top 5 players at each position. This week, we get things started with the Top 5 right-handed pitchers led by Clinton Hollon of Woodford County (Versailles, Ky.), a 6-foot-1, 195-pounder who can throw in the high-90s.

1. Clinton Hollon, Woodford County High School (Versailles, Ky.)
Hollon, a Kentucky commit, has bumped 97 mph on the radar gun. And despite some red flags with his delivery, he has the best arm in the prep class of 2013. He's just 6-foot-1, but he's well built at 195 pounds and offers an upper-80s curveball, a mid-80s slider and a changeup. His slider may be his best shot at an out pitch at the next level.

Really have got to have some fun with this kid. McBOOM

[tweet]https://twitter.com/vancanadians/status/489244006438551552[/tweet]

As for Pentacost, he had a sac fly/RBI in his first at bat, and singled and scored ahead of McBroom the second time up.

Do you have any idea why Max Pentecost doesn't seem to be playing full games?

It's his debut in Vancouver tonight, and he's 2-3 so far with a sac fly, so I assume he will be playing full games there, but he's not the only catcher, and he only just joined the team.

He's been replaced by Michael De La Cruz.

Whenever I look at the boxscores, he hasn't been playing full games. I just found it kinda strange.

My effort to motivate Dawel Lugo by rating him third in the Barreto/Urena/Lugo trio has had the desired effect: he went 4 for 4 with a double and his 2nd HR in as many games. So to recap: couldn't hit in April, hit well in May, couldn't hit in June, hitting very well in July. Pattern emerging.

I like that he's starting to show some power again this season.

Yeah...now, if he could just fix that BB rate. Strikeout rate is plenty serviceable for someone his age in full-season, and bodes well for maintaining a pretty high average. He'll need both that and the pop if he's ultimately going to have to transition away from short (and third base looks more his path than second if it comes to that).

Tinoco may be coming around. 1BB and 17Ks over his past 16 innings.

That'll play.
