I think that’s stupid, personally.
My opinion on that depends whether the Jays continue being in the same division as NYY and BOS.
I would assume we would be in a division predominantly with AL central teams. Given where Toronto is located, and the fact I don’t think the league particularly cares about any Jays AL East rivalry. I generally like playing the Red Sox and Yankees, because the games have more intensity.
Also, apparently they’re talking about expansion?
The biggest mistake this franchise made, which cost this team multiple trips to the playoffs and perhaps even a couple of World Series banners was in 1997 when the Jays had the chance to move to AL Central but declined. They declined because they enjoyed the revenue that came playing the Yankees and Boston, in the sold out Skydome. A foolish decision that cost this team multiple banners.
I remember the 1998 Blue Jays. A monster bounce back year from Jose Canseco who was signed for cheap money. Great talent like Delgado and Green, and Rogers Clemens was exceptional on the mound winning the CY Young. It was a very good team. Problem was the Jays were 88-74, but ended up Third Place in the AL East behind Boston and New York. The Yankees were amazing that year, winning 114 games and the first of their three World Series, and fourth trip to the World Series (losing in a classic baseball game to Arizona in 2001).
You can say the same thing about the 2006 Blue Jays. A very good team but stuck behind New York. So hopefully this wrong could be corrected. I would love the Jays to be in the AL Central. They belong in the AL Central also geographically. It would be great not to face Tampa, Boston, and New York on a regular basis anymore.
