I think the article misses the Jays' interest in, and need of, another high leverage reliever. Yimi Garcia is prone to long injury absences, and that forces low leverages pitchers to cover higher leverage situations and adds to the usage of Rodriguez and Hoffman. This bullpen is not good enough for the post-season. A controllable top starter would be nice for the playoffs, but getting a home seed throughout the playoffs really requires a bullpen upgrade now, especially since this team doesn't generate quite the same offence on the road, which means a lot of tight low-run games through September.

IMO we should prioritize a high-end bullpen arm over a high end starter. Although we don't have a legit #1 type (Max Fried, Skener etc), we do have 3 legit #2s (Berrios, Gausman, Bassitt), a wild card (Manoah), and a decent #2/#3 who can give you 5 good innings if healthy (Max Scherzer). Eric Lauer would transition into BP long man in the PS

Our starting pitching ERA is like 24th in the league this season. We could definitely use a boost to the rotation imo.

Lol. Boston loses on a walk-off catcher's interference.

This is one of the most insane stats to me. 5-10, 230 pound Josh Naylor, had 25 steals in 598 career games entering this season.

He has 10 stolen bases in his last 11 games. Unbelievable.

So Rob Mandred says a divisional geographical realignment could come soon.

I think that’s stupid, personally.

My opinion on that depends whether the Jays continue being in the same division as NYY and BOS.

I would assume we would be in a division predominantly with AL central teams. Given where Toronto is located, and the fact I don’t think the league particularly cares about any Jays AL East rivalry. I generally like playing the Red Sox and Yankees, because the games have more intensity.

Also, apparently they’re talking about expansion?

Rob Manfred hints at geographic realignment in MLB — what would spur it on - The New York Post

Rob Manfred hinted that geographical realignment for Major League Baseball’s divisions could be on the horizon.

The MLB commissioner appeared on ESPN’s broadcast of Sunday night’s Little League Classic between the Mets and Mariners when the topic of expansion and realigned divisions came up.

While Manfred hinted at the idea of more geographically friendly divisions, there was one major catch that came along with it.

“I think if we expand, it provides us with an opportunity to geographically realign,” Manfred said. “I think we could save a lot of wear and tear on our players in terms of travel. And I think our postseason format would be even more appealing for entities like ESPN, because you’d be playing out of the East and out of the West.”

MLB hasn’t expanded since the Diamondbacks and Rays entered the league in 1998, but the league is reportedly eying expansion once the Athletics and Rays solve their stadium situations.

Nashville has been among the list of cities that could be eying bringing an MLB franchise to town and one that the league is interested in, according to USA TODAY.

“I think the owners realize there is demand for major league baseball in a lot of great cities, and we have an opportunity to do something good around that expansion process,” Manfred said.

Manfred had previously stated that he would like to add two more teams to MLB before he retires as commissioner in 2029.

The idea of realignment would likely mean the end of the American League and National League, bringing baseball more in line with the way the NBA and NHL align their divisions.

And it would constitute one of the biggest shakeups in baseball, which has occurred more frequently in recent years as Manfred has worked to change the rules of the game, schedule and the postseason format in order to boost interest.

If that's the case, I'd be fine with it. If the Jays were in the Central for the past 30 years, there's a very good chance they'd have won a WS at some point in that time (and maybe multiple).

The biggest mistake this franchise made, which cost this team multiple trips to the playoffs and perhaps even a couple of World Series banners was in 1997 when the Jays had the chance to move to AL Central but declined. They declined because they enjoyed the revenue that came playing the Yankees and Boston, in the sold out Skydome. A foolish decision that cost this team multiple banners.

I remember the 1998 Blue Jays. A monster bounce back year from Jose Canseco who was signed for cheap money. Great talent like Delgado and Green, and Rogers Clemens was exceptional on the mound winning the CY Young. It was a very good team. Problem was the Jays were 88-74, but ended up Third Place in the AL East behind Boston and New York. The Yankees were amazing that year, winning 114 games and the first of their three World Series, and fourth trip to the World Series (losing in a classic baseball game to Arizona in 2001).

You can say the same thing about the 2006 Blue Jays. A very good team but stuck behind New York. So hopefully this wrong could be corrected. I would love the Jays to be in the AL Central. They belong in the AL Central also geographically. It would be great not to face Tampa, Boston, and New York on a regular basis anymore.
