This is usually when they sign. There was that stretch where it seemed like all the big names weren’t signed until January or February. But that seems to be over.

They been super aggressive with the pitching moves since the Manoah DFA. Yariel was pretty solid for most of the regular season, and for a minute was the best reliever - even was making a case for closer.
Really curious to see how this pans out
Also, if they’re aiming so high with the pitching, I don’t think they’ll want to being back an iffy Berrios

Calculated gamble. Another org pays out that deal or he goes to the minors. Meh.

They are not giving up on Yariel, they just think he is overpaid. Seems like they wanted someone else to claim him.
But he could still certainly make the team out of spring training, since they are stuck paying him at this point anyway. No point holding him on the 40 man through the winter

Either way, it’s a bold move and carries risking the relationship. And at first glance no clear benefit

Not sure if it was a calculated risk or to sneak him to the minors - think they would have been quite happy with his salary being taken off their payroll.
But he still has a decent shot of making the team out of camp next year. They will just stick him back on 40 man, if / when space opens out of camp (if he earned that spot of course)

How is opening a roster spot not a clear benefit
One flew east, one flew west, one flew over the cuckoo’s nest.
