100 feet to Jason Frasor’s right, a large group of his teammates hit the showers, trying to wash away an afternoon’s worth of grime and the stench of disheartening 5-4 loss to the Texas Rangers.

In the adjacent locker, fellow relief pitcher Shawn Camp was nearly dressed and ready to leave while Frasor, still in his game pants and undershirt, stood by fuming.

In his first appearance since manager Cito Gaston declared him the club’s closer, Frasor squandered a save opportunity, surrendering the tying run on a single from Nelson Cruz, then giving up the game-winner on a long single by Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

It stings Frasor to open the season with both a blown save and a loss, but he says letting down his teammates — and depriving Marcum of a win after such a strong performance — hurt him even worse.

He's a good kid, and I can forgive him if he turns it around.

It's alright, one game. It hurt, but we'll live.

Marcum really derserved that win. I know it's one game but the bullpen is supposed to be our life support this year and that's not a good start.

I really thought we should have had Downs pitch both the 8th and 9th innings.

Frasor just doesn't seem like a closer.

Personally, I would try a starter, as the closer.

Has there ever been a SP, that would close on nights he didn't start?

any chance we could see something like that happen?

He worked as a closer last year. What's different this year?
