Agents don't like Lind's deal

Scroll about 3/4 of the way down for the story.

Not surprisingly, rival agents are exasperated with the four-year, $18 million contract that designated hitter Adam Lind signed with the Blue Jays, mostly because Lind agreed to club options covering each of his first three free-agent years.

“Three club options? The union hates those deals and understandably so,” one agent said. “He should have gotten those numbers without the options. The arbitration process rewards offensive production, and this kid is going to produce.”

As Rosenthal points out, it's hard to complain about signing a deal that means you and your family will never have to worry about money again, but it does look like the Blue Jays are getting good value.

At that price, it's a steal.

aren't those options like 7 million a year or something? it's still a good deal for us but he will get paid in the option years, hopefully he is a perrenial all-star by then and a still a steal.

If he's not worth the 7 mil we just decline the option, and maybe re-sign him for less?

You gotta love a deal that the union complains about.

Why are they complaining now and not after the Rays practically robbed Longoria, Shields, and Crawford with ridiculously team-friendly contracts? SIX years and 17.5 million for Longoria PLUS 3 team options. Jame Shields for 4/11.25 million plus 3 team options. Crawford for 4/15.25 plus two team options. AA is just taking advantage of the precedent.

Agreed.

Thats a fantastic contract for AA to get. Add that to the manageable deal signed by Hill and thats 60+ hrs and 200+ RBIs on the cheap IMO.

Why is the union mad we only made Vernon one of the top 10 richest contracts in baseball. I think after his production we have entitled to pay a few players nothing to produce. Maybe by then we can win and spend a bit more.
