Overpaid, Does it Again!

Honestly, this is terrible, what do we have to do, if he's not hitting please provide Vernon with some protection and put Ruiz there, move him down, play Lind LF, and Ruiz DH. And Snider blew a play, he could not catch a ball hit at him.
But Overbay's defence is really good, so i'm frustrated. Or just bring up Wallace already, him and Frasorr
have cost us every game, this is pathetic.

LOL Was just watching Sportsnet and they pointed out that Roy Halladay has the same amount of hits as Lyle Overturd. wow....

The hate for Lyle is normal, but this time he's actually doing awful. I've never seen him like this...hacking away at balls off the plate.
And yet Cito plans to start him tomorrow....against a LEFTY!

That's basically indefensable. Yes, let's continue to destroy his confidence by starting him against pitchers we know he can't hit.

Eventually he's going to get a hit or maybe even a HR against a lefty if you keep throwing him out there against them...which will provide positive reinforcement for Cito's decisions.
Scary.
You know what...I want Millar back. We need a platoon.

Don't get crazy now.
Since they don't want to use some of the platoon options they have (Ruiz, JoBau), I guess they're just waiting until June to bring up Wallace.

If I've gone crazy, it's only because Cito's driven me to it.

The one good thing is ... this is his last year. Its almost unbelievable to watch. He's in such a slump right now that its at the point where you really just have to put him out there every day until it just turns on one day and clicks. At least he looks good in batting practice.

Let's start Kevin Millar instead of Overturd.

Cito's benched Snider today, I guess Cito's rule about slumps (allowing players to work out of it) doesn't apply to Snider, only to Overbay. Lucky us.

I thought Cito didn't like Overbay. Seemed like he would play Millar whenever he had the chance.

What's his excuse for shaving? It sure isn't helping him out of the slump, and it was a nice touch.

That's my problem as well. Overbay is a gold glover IMO but his offence has gotten so bad that it's simply not worth it anymore. I wonder what Lind is like at 1B because that seems to make alot of sense since they clearly don't want him full time in the OF and he's too young to be a DH, is his defence really that bad? Wallace is another intriging idea but I don't know if they want to keep him at 3B and move Bautista to 1st or just try him at 1st and then we no longer have our future 3B anymore, anyway, something has to be done.

Overbay is a weird case to me. For one, he has very little trade value. He makes a pretty big salary for a platoon 1B in his 30's. Chances are he's not going to be anything more than a Type B free agent by the end of the season, and the Jays would be foolish to offer him arbitration at the end of the year anyway when he's making $7 million this season. So really, what is the point of keeping Overbay at this point? His cost is already sunk into the team's payroll (i.e. no team will take his contact even at the deadline), he is what he is (good defender, can hit righties) and at this point with Wallace knocking on the door the team is probably better off giving AB's to Ruiz and Dopirak at 1B to see if they will present any type of value in the future.
I could understand if Overbay were a desirable player (like Frasor, Downs, etc), fine, feature him. But what good is he to a rebuilding team? I am almost at the point where I'd release him and give his AB's to Ruiz and Dopirak. Sure he'll probably catch on with a team and be productive, but really, who cares? He plays an easily dispensible position and even at his best he is a platoon player. Not exactly the type who is going to fetch anything more than a C level prospect at the deadline while the Jays stay on the hook for his salary.

This was in CBS Power Rankings:
Travis Snider is playing almost every day, as he should be. Developing him should be the team's top priority for 2010 ... In the wake of his .080/.145/.140 start, it's time to throw Lyle Overbay overboard. Get it? Hey now! ... Seriously, though, get Brett Wallace up here ASAP and see if his chunko frame and hands of concrete can settle in at first base. Again, this season is all about seeing which of the kids can be a part of a contending team in 2012.
Even the American media is calling for his head, I know he recovered a bit yesterday but like the last poster stated, there is no good reason for keeping this guy as a starter.

I don't even blame Overbay. He's doing what he can do. I blame Cito for playing him.

I think Cito should move him to the bottom of the order.
