Alex Gordon
Sorry if this was discussed in another thread. I just read something on mbltraderumors.com, and they were talking about the Royals demoting Gordon to triple-A. The Jays seem to need a long-term 3rd baseman and might have the trade pieces necessary. A lot of comments on the article seem to think so too.
I don't know anything about him and have never seen him play. Is he worth the risk? If so, what would KC need going back to them in a hypothetical trade?
Thank you very much.
Where Could Alex Gordon Go?

I'd take a shot with him, but I wouldn't give them anything of significant value (which we might be able to pull off...Dayton Moore runs the Royals).

Heh, they are great entertainment...two years ago, Gordon had a really solid second season. Last year, he suffers a fairly major injury and misses much of the year. This year, he breaks his thumb in ST, and gets off to a somewhat slow start, as people who broke their thumbs are wont to do.
Boom...demoted and likely to be traded, so that they can play Chris Getz (who is all-world awful, but steals bases!) at 2B and shift Callaspo to third.
If we're playing bets on the haul, I'm going with: a 26 year old, hard-throwing reliever with control issues and a low-minors no-bat middle infielder.
Edit: Josh Roenicke and Scott Campbell. It just fits their MO so perfectly.

**** your asterisk.

I was thinking Shawn Camp and Brad Mills but that's even better.

Re: Alex Gordon
I read somewhere they weren't looking to deal him. They're gonna play him in LF in Omaha 'cause they're prepping for Moustakas at third and... I've forgotten his name at 1st. Whether that's smart, who knows, but I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere.

Eric Hosmer is the guy you're thinking of. But they were messing with Gordon's development long before any concerns about making room for Moustakas and Hosmer. Gordon only had one season in the minors before starting on Opening Day 2007 and being expected to anchor the lineup. That's too much pressure on anyone, no matter how good of a draft prospect he was or how good of a year he had in the minors. Apparently they bailed on Gordon after 31 ABs because he wasn't cutting it at 3B, which is crazy since the alternatives are Alberto Callaspo and Chris Getz and they're either worse or equally bad. And Billy Butler, who can't field his position well either, isn't much better than Gordon, and yet he never got jerked around.

Maybe I'm giving them too much credit, but I have to assume this was something they were considering already. No way they made this move based on less than 10 games. Personally, even if they're thinking this is best for the long term, they didn't need to do this now. I would've just let Gordon play the year as consistent as possible to try and get him going well, 'cause it's not like either of those guys are sitting at AAA knocking on the door to get in.
I will say, opposed to the days where they thought signing Grudzielanek made them competitive again (okay, I'm exaggerating) thinking really long term can't be bad. Now, I'm more than a little sceptical they follow it long enough for it to matter whether the prospects actually pan out as they hope, but if this is part of a long term idea, it's better than a knee jerk reaction send down.
And this is just pure PR fluff, but Gordon seems okay with all this:

Re: Alex Gordon
It looks like Gordon is really impressing out in LF. It looks like they're gonna hold onto him and move him to LF and move Moustakas to 3rd. Just they have to wait for his bat to arrive.

Re: Alex Gordon
It's definitely too early to call Gordon a flop. I doubt that they'd give him away just yet but this still might be the time to steal him off the Royals.

What's going to happen with Encarnacion when he's healthy? I rather ride out Bautista at 3rd. I just hope they don't bench Snider and slide Bautista to RF.
And off topic, but when is Ruiz gonna get some burn? I know Overbay is hitting pretty decent the last few games, but his .185 Avg is brutal.

Have you seen him play? He swings at everything and tries to hit a HR in every at bat. Unless you are Vladimir Guerrero that will never work in the majors. I dont care how many HRs he hit last year, he has now been figured out. Some of the stuff he swings at is purely comical.
His approach may work as a 32 year old in the minors, but not on this level.

Re: Alex Gordon
Hey, I cringe at his whiffs too...although when you sit out for X amount of games, and get sparatic plate appearances, it's tough to get into any groove. I'm not saying he's the saviour of this team, and Overbay is certainly not getting it done, so why not have him play a full series, and let Overbay sit out and mentally get his focus back.

Re: Alex Gordon
Alex Gordon went 3-5 today with 3 singles and 2 RBI's...absolutely obliterating AAA pitching with a .385 average.
It's obvious the Royals have brought this kid along wrong (playing him too early in the majors, hitting him too high in the order, giving him added pressure.). They should've taken a Blue Jays with Travis Snider approach with him.
I'm hopeful he can turn it around in LF for the Royals. If his bat ever comes around, he could be a top player in this league.
