I'm kinda shocked they got anything for Eveland at all.
Per MLBTR,
"Uviedo, a 23-year-old Venezuelan, has a 3.22 ERA, 11.3 K/9, and 4.8 BB/9 in 22.3 relief innings this year for the Double A Altoona Curve. Baseball America ranked Uviedo 18th among Pirates prospects heading into the '09 season. BA described him as rail-thin and homer-prone, but praised his fastball and slider."

Seriously, what the **** are the Pirates thinking...Sickels rated him as their 10th-best prospect entering this year. Not that he's going to be a star or anything, but look at this progression:
- Eveland sucks in Oakland, is DFA'd.
- Toronto acquires Eveland for cash (from what I can tell).
- Eveland sucks in Toronto, is DFA'd.
- Toronto trades him after nine starts for a decent prospect.
God bless you, Neal Huntington.

good job by AA to turn nothing into something. Just keep adding to the pile

How did AA turn Dana Eveland into a potential relief pitcher down the line?

Brian Burres AND Dana Eveland on the same team or even same rotation? Yikes. I do not envy Pirates fans.

Its really quite amazing... AA seems to know his way around a trade.

Too bad he couldn't persuade the Cubs to grab Frasor....
fa's have met expectations too, i'd say.

Other starters this year include Charlie Morton (9.35 ERA in 43 IP, with 12 HRs), Zach Duke (5.09 ERA, 13.7 hits/9), and Daniel McCutchen (a 13.50 ERA and three starts...the longest was 4 innings). They're pulling off a rather magical feat: they have a .403 winning percentage, but are outperforming their Pythag by 50%.
Not to mention that Huntington's justification consisted of "He's 26! He's left-handed! We'll have him under control for years!" Hey, Neal...I'm 24, left-handed, and I'll play for $350k a year for as long as you want me.

They're not trading Uviedo for Eveland, they're trading Uviedo and the #2-4 pick for the #1 pick in next year's draft. Take that Orioles! Try to compete for the cellar against the Pirates pitching staff. Works both ways for AA too.

It was AA who got Bautista from them as well, maybe this will be another gem. Either way, it's a no lose situation.

Lol thought no one would pick him up. Pirates gonna have fun watching him and Burress throw BP. Also we got Fred Lewis for 75K cash apparently LOL.

I like this deal. From what I've heard, I'm don't know if Uviedo will turn into anything at the major league level, but to flip Eveland for anything resembling a prospect should be considered a win by AA.

Do the Jays still owe a PTBNL or cash to Oakland for acquiring in Eveland in the first place?

We shipped them five-figures worth of cash, I do believe.

(I love it when I manage to both add unnecessary punctuation and forget to add necessary punctuation in the same sentence. It all balances out, right?)
