As of tonight, the Detroit Tigers are close to a trade with Arizona in which they would pay all of Willis’ contract except for the major league minimum salary. The Tigers would wind up paying Willis all but a few hundred thousand dollars of the $12 million they owe him this season.
It wasn’t immediately known who the Tigers would receive in return.
I was actually a little surprised when they DFA'd him. Obviously he's struggled a lot but he's been okay this year and since they're on the hook for his big ticket anyway I figured it'd be worth it to give him more of a chance.
That being said maybe they'll actually be getting somewhat of a decent prospect, we'll see.
