Series Thread: Jays @ Rockies, June 11-13

Post#1 » by zilby » Fri Jun 11, 2010 3:33 pm

Interleague play. Felt daring so I'll take this series.

The Toronto Blue Jays...

Vs.

The Colorado Rockies.

Game 1: Friday, June 11th, 2010

9:10 PM, Sportsnet

Ricky Romero (5-2, 3.06) Vs. Ubaldo Jimenez (11-1, 0.93)

Rockies: Jimenez saw his scoreless innings streak end at 33 innings when the D-backs' Conor Jackson homered for two runs on Sunday on a 3-1 changeup. But here's something interesting: Jimenez, who struck out eight, gave up six hits. Just one, by the D-backs' Kelly Johnson, came on a fastball. As long as Jimenez's best pitch is unhittable, he's difficult to beat, but it should be a good matchup with the power-hitting Jays.

Game 2: Saturday, June 12th, 2010

9:10 PM, Sportsnet

Brandon Morrow (4-4, 5.48) Vs. Jason Hammel (3-3, 5.23)

Rockies: Hammel turned in his best outing of the season on Monday, striking out three and not allowing a run in 7 1/3 innings in Colorado's 5-1 win against the Astros. He is 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA in his last five starts.

Game 3: Sunday, June 13th, 2010

3:10 PM, Sportsnet

Jesse Litsch (0-0, 0.00) Vs. Jeff Francis

Blue Jays: Litsch will be making his season debut after coming off the 60-day disabled list after recovering from Tommy John surgery. The 25-year-old right-hander takes the rotation spot of Brian Tallet, who was moved into the bullpen following his last outing on Tuesday, when he gave up five runs on six hits in four innings of a 9-0 loss to the Rays. Litsch will be trying to duplicate the stuff he showed in 2008 when he went 5-2 with a 1.92 ERA in nine starts after returning from a stint in the Minors in the middle of the summer. He finished the year 8-7 with a 4.46 ERA in 20 games (19 starts). Last year, Litsch made only two starts before being placed on the disabled list April 14 with a right forearm strain and then underwent the reconstructive surgery on June 12. This will be Litsch's first career appearance against the Rockies.

Rockies: The Rockies lost Francis' last start, 4-3, to the Astros, but Francis didn't figure in the decision though he pitched well enough to win -- two runs in seven innings, with seven hits, one strikeout, 14 groundouts. Many of the hits came when Francis missed high with the fastball, but a changeup that has been accurate all season bailed him out of numerous jams.

Go Jays. 2-1.

I predict us rocking Jimenez tonight. Lind with a 2/4 night with a homer. Romero 7 SOs. :D

If we could be the team to put a dent into Jimenez's ERA....that would be crazy. Would be all over Canadian sports stations and ESPN as well.

We were the first ones to get to Zach Grienke last year and ended his scoreless innings streak, hopefully we do the same to Jimenez.

call me crazy, but i think we get to jimenez for like 3 or 4 runs in 6 innings. We always seem to do good against these "Ace" pitchers.

that, or he throws a perfect game against us. lets go :)

After a highly respectable 4-5 vs. the league's elite, let's see if we can continue our winning ways. Keep on truckin' Jays!

“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

This should be a big series, as the Rockies are our rival. I remember 2 or 3 years ago, we played them during rivalry week!

What is the deal with Ubaldo? Does he try to get ahead with first pitch fastball strikes, or can he get ahead with breaking balls in the strike zone? The Jays play the wack-a-mole game with fastballs in the strikezone, so it could work out if he serves a couple up.

I look forward to this being a good test for our own ace leftie. Will he try too hard?

I only peruse through bluejays.com when I gotta check out the schedule- and for their highlights, but it's funny how the headline for this game is Jays look to rock Jimenez after delay. Jimenez hasn't even been slightly touched- let alone rocked, all year. If this is any indication of the mindset of this team during this little delay here, then Ubaldo my friend you better watch the **** out! Jays are gonna pound em so his Cy-worthy stats plummet to Eveland territory.

But no the editors on bluejays.com are probably just massive homers like me.

i think the jays can win tonight. they seem to have a knack of beating pitchers like this. Romero has been unlucky though with matchups this year.
