Could be.

I remember him putting up somewhat decent numbers last year for the Red Sox before Gonzo rejoined them.

He's a starter in the same way anyone that has started can be considered a starter, but he's not particularly good at hitting baseballs. His career line is .238/.307/.351, an OPS+ of 71...a little better than Johnny Mac, but not hugely so, and he isn't half as good defensively.

Really, not sure what this accomplishes save for giving Eric Hinske competition in the "who can play for every AL East team first" sweepstakes. Both of them just need to play for Baltimore to complete the set.

whoops, egg on my face... that Nick Green!

For some reason, I was sure the article said we acquired "pitcher" Nick Green. I bet Zwolinski changed it! ;)

It gives Mike McCoy ABs in AAA instead of wasting away with only 50 here. That's the only thing I got.

True enough, and I suppose that's as good a reason as any. It's not like I hate the move, it (like the Wise signing) just seems like an odd reshuffling of players.

I think they want to get McCoy some PAs in case there are suitors for A-Gon at the deadline.

Hinske's in a very different competition. I think his one is to see how many teams he can make a world series with. He's done the Sox, Rays and Yankees and now he's with the NL leading Braves. It would be pretty crazy if he made it again. And he'd probably have a decent sized role this year. He's teeing off on righties.
