Blue Jays next Manager?

Cito will be moving upstairs with the Jays next season so I guess it's time to talk about who might be interested in taking over?

Do the Jays have anyone within the organization they might look at or will AA go searching else where?

Do you see us bringing in someone young that can grow with the team, or an older experienced manager like Cito?

Whoever they get has some pretty big shoes to fill as they will be replacing the best manager this team has ever had.

Does anyone have any insight on the type of manager they want? Could they look to a former Jay from the World Series years?

Personally, I'd interview Paul Molitor.

But I get the feeling that a significant reason for your post was to throw out that nugget.... So Bobby Cox and JWil are out the window? Cito's the shiznat?

if they are rebuilding, i would say get a young manager or inexperienced like what TB did with Joe Maddon....usually you let a young manager grow with the team...

I didn't say best manager ever, I just said the best manager the Jays have had. Former managers are welcome to return, but that doesn't mean I'm going to say they are better.

Lol, Sharone meant that Cox and Williams should be right there with Cito as the best Jays managers, not as best managers ever. Man, you must really like Cito then.

Anyway, Butterfield has managerial aspirations and they're grooming Sal Fasano in Lansing but that's for the future. I don't really care who the manager is, though. There's a reason they're called managers in baseball and soccer and not coaches.

Bobby Cox is probably the best manager the team has ever had, but that is an argument for a different time.

Brian Butterfield will get some serious consideration, but I'm sure AA is going to hold a thorough search.

I don't see them hiring another old retread like Cito, with where the team is at. Besides, is there anyone out there who even really deserves consideration that way?

There is no World Series Jays I would want to look at. Partly because I don't want that to influence them into picking a worse candidate, but partly because none of those guys really scream manager (maybe Tony Fernandez?). Are any of them even coaching anywhere?

Whoever the next manager is should be long-term; one that will start with the team when they are rebuilding (2011) and still be there when they turn the corner. So no older managers like Cito. Hopefully the Jays can find a Mike Scioscia or Joe Maddon type.
