Aroldis Chapman is a reliever... maybe not even closer

The Reds are converting the former prized FA into a reliever after many struggles as a starter..... They were impressed after he dominated in one game as a reliever

........................ then he had a big set back in the next and blew the game.

*** maybe Jays dodged a bullet. I mean at his price tag

Not sure that the Jays dodged a bullet, so much as Cincinnati is being impatient and short-sighted. Chapman wasn't terrible as a starter...he struggled with his control as expected, but he's also a 22 year old making his stateside debut in AAA. 13 mediocre starts shouldn't consign him to the 'pen, but they're stupidly seeking instant gratification over long-term value.

My guess is that he'll end up being the Cuban Brandon Morrow: ping-ponged between the bullpen and rotation for a couple years to completely **** up his development, to the point where the Reds end up giving up on him.

At which point the Jays will sneak in and grab him for the cost of an inconsistent reliever and low-level prospect.

This is monumentally stupid. 190 IP > 70. I thought teams would have learned their lesson about that by now. I don't even know what else to say.

He's a victim of Cincy's success this year, really...if they were 35-43 I'd imagine that he'd keep starting, but they fancy themselves a playoff team, and with an awful bullpen (only one reliever with 10+ innings and a WHIP below 1.50, and that's His Immortal LOOGYness, Arthur Rhodes) are hoping beyond hope that they can get Chapman to the bigs for a stretch drive, where he'll pitch at most 20 innings and make a difference of 2-3 runs at most, and set back his progress by a year.
