The Angels have acquired Dan Haren from Arizona in exchange for Joe Saunders, Patrick Corbin, Rafael Rodriguez, and a player to be named later, according to Andrew Baggarly of the Mercury News (via Twitter).

The player to be named later is a top prospect, a source tells Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic (via Twitter).

It had better be a top prospect or Arizona needs a new GM.

If it was Conger he wouldn't be a PTNL.

The reason I said Skaggs is because he is a top prospect who isn't eligible to be traded yet because it hasn't been a full year since he was signed, thus the need to PTBNL him.

How good am I? 8-)

Thinking aloud, if it's a PTBNL because it's an '09 draft pick, it could be LHP Tyler Skaggs, who didn't sign until 8/7/09

Conger is on the 7-day DL right now...you can't trade minor leaguers on the DL, no?

If it is Skagg, his numbers as a 18 year old in the Midwest league look pretty sick, is he considered THE main piece in the deal? I don't know anything about the other guys other than Joe Saunders is a horrible pitcher who is gonna get destroyed in chase field.

Carlos Gonzalez
Brett Anderson
Chris Carter
Aaron Cunningham
Greg Smith
Dana Eveland

that is what the DBacks initially gave up for Danny Haren, the top three are probably better than any of the crap they got back and wasn't Eveland considered a good prospect back then?

I get that Arizona was desperate to dump Haren's salary, but other teams must've had better prospects right? That franchise has been a total mess recently.

They won't even save much money if they take Saunders to arbitration who'll earn like 7 million even though he doesn't deserve it, they traded one of the best pitchers on a great contract for the most overrated pitcher in Baseball. I thought it was just the politicians that were incompetent in Arizona, but apprently not, this is horrificly bad.

The more i read about the prospects involve the more horrific i find this whole thing, what the hell are they smoking in Arizona

Just a horrendous deal. And it's obvious they asked for Saunders for PR purposes--"we got a major league starter back". A guy who has had an xFIP below 4.50 only once.

Just brutal. I don't understand how anybody in the DBacks organization could have possibly justified this.

I dont think this is a "brutal" deal. Seems better than the rumored deals with the Yankees. Its risky relying on two very young pitchers, but both Skaggs and Corbin show a lot of promise, on top of both being projectable lefties.
