I dont see why ppl are saying Gonzalez is doing so great in Atlanta....... the guy has gone back to his previous form (before joining the Jays)

in 32 games he is hitting decent average (.277), with 0 HRs, 2 RBIs...... though providing steller defence

isent this more like the guy that Boston let walk and Jays signed as a short term replacement?

I think he just came back to reality..... by next season, Atlanta will regret losing Escobar who will likely again become ONE OF THE BEST SS in the MLB!

- It's 12 games, not 32. Hard to draw any firm conclusions on that basis.

- He has a .277/.346/.750 line in those 12 games. That's not too bad (OPS+ of 103), especially as Turner Field isn't a bandbox.

- No one really disputes the fact that it was a coup for us...it was a terrific sell high on Gonzalez, and in terms of the return relative to the price given up, it could well go down as Anthopolous' best deal of those made thus far in his career.

my mistake, its only 13 games....

though I expect things to really cool down in the second ahlf for him and by next season he will be nothing more than a John-Macdonald type, with a better better. (nothing special though)

The Braves aren't dumb. They knew what they were getting, and they knew they were losing talentwise right now. Part of the problem could be the "Escobar was a problem in the clubhouse" issue, who knows. What they lost though, they seem to have gotten back prospects wise, because Tim Collins is killing it for his new team. 1.13 ERA, 2 saves, 14 K in 8 IP.

In the end, both teams should be happy with the trade, although if the Braves don't make it to the Finals and win, it would be considered a failure

I think it had a lot to do with the fact that management got sick and tired of him (and players too):

braves look like their a lock on he NL East, AGON is gonna be key in the playoffs for them...

this is baseball, the nature of the game doesn't change at all in the playoffs unlike the other sports, Alex Gonzalez is a terrible hitter whether its the regular season or the playoffs. The Braves aren't a lock to win anything either, they're only 3.5 up on Philadeplhia who have been on a tear lately. Unless they get another impact bat in the outfield, i could easily see the Braves surrendering that lead in a hurry
