Brian Butterfield, bench coach, Blue Jays — A guy who deserves to manage, Butterfield could be under consideration when Cito Gaston retires after this season. Butterfield has been a loyal lieutenant, one of the hardest-working coaches in the business and a guy who served Buck Showalter well as a coach in Arizona. It’ll be interesting to see if he isn’t named Jays manager if he’ll be allowed to leave for Baltimore to join Showalter again.

This isn't new news; he's been my (and 75% of the rest of the world's) prediction since Cito stepping down was announced. The he knows the team, players respect him, he's well regarded around the league and he's paid his dues. If AA hires from within, it is probably Butters, Luis Rivera or maybe, if he's going way out there, Sal Fasano.

If AA hires from outside the team, no one I've seen claims to have a good read on where he might go.

It was speculated that Dan Rohn, the manager of the 51s, was brought in to be either the manager or bench coach-in-waiting. Definitely wouldn't mind Butterfield with the top job and Rohn on the bench.

Butterfield has done some good work for us, we could certainly do much worse.

Not saying the man hasn't paid his dues, but I like him at the 3rd base close. Maybe there will be somebody with experience available this offseason.

Third base coach was a demotion from the bench coach he held the past two years, and the only reason I can imagine he accepted it was for a shot at the top job. If a new manager wants to keep him around, I'm sure he'ld need to at least offer him his last job back.
