OT: Slowey pulled while having no-hitter

I remember when Morrow was having his no-hitting going on, his pitch count was very high. There was a debate going on during the game thread as to whether or not you should let a pitcher to continue, risking injury to an arm.

Today Slowey had a no-hitter, but was pulled from the game, as he just came back from an injury. That's the right move to make by the manager, but I'm sure it was tough to make.. not a popular move, but it had to be done.

"I would boo me too," Gardenhire said. "I took a pitcher out with a no-hitter going. But I would do it 1,000 times the same way."

The reason was simple: Elbow tendinitis caused Slowey to miss his last start. Combine that with 106 pitches to get through seven innings and there was little chance of him throwing two more innings -- even if he continued to hold the Athletics without a hit.

"We're not going to come close to risking this guy," Gardenhire said. "It's the way it is. It's sad. I'd be booing too because I want to see a no-hitter, but I also know I'm responsible for this guy's arm."

it sucks, but it is what it is and the manager made a good move, since slowey was coming off that injury.

Marcum was pulled with a no-hitter through 6 IP a few years back when he was transitioning as a reliever to a starter. I don't remember the American media even mentioning it.

They hate Canada with the white-hot passion of a thousand suns. Given half a chance, they would kill us six ways to Sunday, and then spit on our graves for good measure. They hate us so much, only Alfred could do justice to how much they hate us.

Maybe. Or they're just indifferent.

It's a different situation than what Morrow had. He was in his first start off an injury. I'm sure the fans wouldn't want to see him hit his no-hitter and then go on the 60 day DL and miss the rest of the season.

If he didn't just come off an injury then I would of let him play it. How often do these guys get a chance to throw a no hitter in their careers.

i think we all agree that it is a completely different situation.. the only reason I brought it up is because during Morrow's no-hitter, there was debate in the game thread as to what circumstance should you pull a pitcher out, and here we see one example.

Bump - Harden was pulled during the 7th with the no-no. It was eventually lost with 1 out in the 9th
