Using a trio of long balls -- one from Travis Snider in the first, a solo shot from John Buck in the second and Aaron Hill's three-run shot in the fifth -- in Wednesday night's series finale against the Yankees, the Blue Jays set a new club record for most home runs in single a season.

The club's previous high was 244, set in back in 2000. Still with four games remaining on this year's docket, the Blue Jays' 247 blasts rank them fifth on Major League Baseball's all-time list. The single-season home run record is held by the 1997 Mariners, who went deep a whopping 264 times.

Batting leadoff, Snider hit his 13th of the season into the left-field seats on a 1-2 offering from Yankees starter Javier Vazquez. Buck launched his 20th of the season just over the wall in left-center field the very next frame. The Jays now have six players with 20 or more home runs, one player shy of a franchise-best seven, set in 2000.

Adding a little flare, Snider hit his home run donning a fake mustache -- worn by many of the Blue Jays at the start of the contest -- to commemorate "Thank You Cito" night at Rogers Centre as retiring manager Cito Gaston was managing his final home game.

If EE can get to 20 they would tie the mark with 7 players with 20 or more home runs. If Gonzalez was still here there would be a good chance that it would be 8.

You know what's crazy? If you look at HR by position (so Bautista contributes at 3rd and RF for example), the 3 lowest spots are 1B, DH, and LF, easily the 3 positions most teams use for power generation.

It really is mindblowing. Except for Fred Lewis, everyone on the team with 300+ ABs has double digit HRs. The 2003 and 2006 teams actually had higher OPS+ and OPS due to OBP, and even SLG (.455, .463, .455 in order), but this group blows away the others in ISO--175, 179, 207. Additionally, 44% of the team's hits were extra-base hits compared to the usual mid-30s for a good offense. They had far and away the highest HR/FB at 11.6% compared to the 7.3% AL avg.

I haven't really been able to find anything definitive despite first looking into it about three months ago, but I believe that we may be about to set the all-time record for ISO. The '97 Mariners, not shockingly, have the best ISO of any team from 1975 on at .204, and none of the really notable power teams from the earlier eras top it; the '61 Yankees were at .179, and the beastliest of the Murder's Row squads looks to have topped out at .181.

Meanwhile, we're at .207; if that holds up over the last three games and there aren't any pre-'75 teams that I'm missing, this will be -- all else equal -- the most powerful team in major league history.

This team isn't a one-trick pony...it's a **** one-trick Clydesdale.
