Overbay prepared to shop his services

Lyle Overbay is looking forward to the free-agent process. The only problem is the Blue Jays first baseman does not know what to expect. After an up-and-down season, Overbay anticipates everything from multi-year offers to Minor League contracts to head his way.

"It's something I've never gone through. Hopefully, it'll be fun," Overbay said during the Blue Jays' final series of the season. "At the same time, you don't know. I'm not going to be disappointed if I don't get what I want. I don't expect a whole lot, but you never know."

Overbay also does not know if Toronto might be one of the teams calling with an offer. The Blue Jays do not have a clear-cut answer at first base if Overbay hits the open market as expected, but none of the team's internal options are void of question marks.

One certainty is that Overbay wants to see what type of offers might exist through free agency. If it looks like Toronto might take a step backward next season, and the club is only willing to give the first baseman a short-term deal, Overbay is not sure he has a future with the Jays.

"The situation has got to be right," Overbay said. "Obviously, it's not going to be a long-term deal. So, if they take a step back, I just don't see myself coming into that. It's not going to help them and it's not going to help me, because I'm not going to be part of the winning part of it.

He'd be a potential fit for a team like Tampa or the Cubs. Hell, even the Rockies could use someone like Overbay.

I think Boston is a good destination....... as a backup

Boston was the team competing with the JAYS for him when the Brewers had him. I think they were very close to landing him.

They are always looking for depth..... at the vesy least Overbay will provide above average defence and decent offence numbers in limited play time
