OT: Cliff Lee watch about to begin

One of the biggest questions going into the shortest winter ever for the Texas Rangers is whether ace left-hander Cliff Lee will be on the mound in five months, when they begin the 2011 season as defending American League champions.

“It goes without saying we want him here,” third baseman Michael Young said. “We want him pitching opening day for the Rangers next year.”

Texas defeated the New York Yankees in the AL championship series to get to its first World Series. Beating the deep-pocketed Yankees again—this time for free-agent Lee—could come at a very high cost.

Lee was traded July 9 from Seattle to Texas, his fourth team in less than year. This time, the 2008 AL Cy Young Award winner gets to decide where he will pitch.

“I know I enjoyed it from Day One ‘til now. It was a very fun ride and a great group of guys. I can’t say enough about that. It was very fun,” Lee said. “Right now, the season’s over. I’m going to spend time with my family, relax a little bit and that stuff will take care of itself later on.”

While Lee helped the Rangers get to the World Series, he lost both of his starts to the San Francisco Giants in the Fall Classic after looking invincible in the postseason until then. That included Game 5 on Monday night, a 3-1 loss in a rematch of the Series opener against two-time NL Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum.

Still, the Rangers got further than ever before in the franchise’s 50th season.

as long as he doesn't come to our division and doesn't have a national broadcast for his decision I'll be happy for him wherever he signs.

Sadly, I got a funny feeling that he'll be in a Yankee uniform.

I say the Yankees. They need to upgrade their staff and have all the money to do it.

I am hoping he signs with Texas (or an NL team).

I'm guessing he goes to the Yankees.

What's up with the Ranger's financial situation now? Do they have the cash to sign him?

Rather not have him in the AL east if it can be avoided.

Apprently Yankees have no plans of persuing Werth or Crawford...... which leads me to believe they will go hard aftr Cliff Lee.

They need pitching help more than anything else.... and ill be damned if the NY YANKEES dont me a splash this time around.

NY....

I'm going against the odds and say that Lee re-signs with the Rangers. I think there's a lot of good vibes going on there, the Rangers payroll is very small so they can afford him and I think Lee will give them a bit of a hometown discount.

Lee's gonna wear pinstripes next year, without a doubt in my mind. Have the Yankees ever missed their top target in FA? The answer's probably yes, but I still don't think there's any chance the Yankee's let him out of their sights and no one can outbid them, so game, set, match.

Yup, I'm also of the belief he'll go with the bronx bombers. They'll outbid everyone, land the premiere off-season name, at a position they need tons of help in, like they always do... The Rangers I think are the only other team with even a slim chance, but I'd say it's about 65/35 Yankees.

Yankees will offer $400 million over 4 years.
