Blue Jays Have Inquired On Greinke, Gordon

The Blue Jays have inquired about the availability of Zack Greinke and Alex Gordon, according to Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun. As Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reported yesterday, the Royals are looking for multiple top prospects for Greinke.
The Blue Jays have Shaun Marcum, Brandon Morrow, Ricky Romero, Brett Cecil and Kyle Drabek pencilled in to their 2011 rotation. They could either let Drabek begin the year in the minors or trade a starter of their own if they acquired Greinke.
Gordon could play first or third for the Blue Jays, but it’s unlikely that he would patrol the outfield, where Travis Snider, Vernon Wells and Jose Bautista figure to get most of the playing time.
It’s not surprising to hear that the Blue Jays inquired on Greinke, a former Cy Young Award winner, and Gordon, a former first rounder who has always destroyed minor league pitching, but it doesn’t mean that GM Alex Anthopoulos will make the Royals a serious offer.

If we somehow score Geinke and Man Ram this off season I would be thrilled.

Greinke thing is getting blown out of proportion. Anthopolous will obviously make an inquiry on every possible trade imaginable, thus the fact that we have "inquired" really doesn't mean a whole lot right now.

Alex Gordon had SO much promise a few yrs ago. Not sure what happened to him. I wouldn't think it would take a HUGE amount to pry him out of KC and have him work with Murph. I believe he is a very good defensive player though?

I have to agree;
Its not like we have Wallace anymore, the spot at first is pretty wide open and I would have no issue taking a flyer on Gordon if the price was right.

Gordon doesn't surprise me. He has at least three years of service time remaining and is at his lowest value. Take a chance on him at 3B (or 1B), assuming it is cheap, and see what happens. He has killed the minors offensively but has not mastered the Majors yet.
Greinke seems very unlikely, unless AA flips him to a 3rd team for more controllable young talent.

- Kyle Drabek
- Travis D'Aroud
- Zep
for
- Zack Greinke
- Alex Gordon
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
basically makes the Halliday trade look like this:
- Roy Halladay
- Zep
for
- Greinke
- Gordon
- Gose

At the end of the day, I think the Royals will demand too much. If number15's trade were feasible, I'd definitely be interested, depending on Greinke's willingness to play here (his no EC major team kind of scares me off of him a bit), but I think at the end of the day they're floating him hoping for a team to lose on Lee, get desperate, and throw them the store, which the Jays simply won't do.
Gordon on the other hand would all be about price. The Royals have done everything they can to make it look like they don't value him, but they do the smart thing and never say so. If he can be had at a decent price, I would be all for trying to rehabilitate his career. I have no idea what position he's supposed to play anymore, 3B->1B, then he went to Omaha to learn LF I believe. If he can play a corner IF spot and comes without costing anything too serious, I'm all for it.

ofcourse AA enquired about Grienke, after all he's dealing with Dayton Moore on the other end of the phone, problem is we don't really have any washouts from the Braves system that he usually obsesses over.

I think best case scenario is we get Gordon for cheap. I don't think AA will throw in two can't miss prospects for Greinke.

If we have Ramirez, I'm all for the Greinke trade
Could it not work out? Sure. Greinke could be more 2010 than 2009, Bautista could fall off, Ramirez could be a loose cannon, Morrow could halter his progress
But if we have A level Greinke, .900 OPS Ramirez, potential ace Morrow, to go along with Romero, Marcum, Bautista, Lind, Snider, etc.? That's a World Series contender.
You have to take a chance to compete in the AL East. And as I said Drabek is a good prospect but not a future Ace. He's not going to be Felix Hernandez or David Price. His upside is probably Greinke's downside if we got him. So I'd be in.

Gordon could be one of those low risk high reward type players. He's got a ton of untapped potential and maybe a change of scenery could do alot for him.

I'm sure everyone has called on Greinke. Gordon is a nice buy low candidate, but I doubt KC is willing to let go of him as cheap as we think we can get him.

they probably want Snider + Drabek for greinke. Considering 2 can't miss propsects. D'arnaund is not one. I don't think we should pull the trigger

I'd be down to take a chance on Gordon if he's cheap. Greinke will be more expensive but would be a legit ace on this staff.
Greinke/Romero/Morrow/Marcum/Cecil is a pretty deadly rotation.
Does Drabek + JPA get it done?

that plus a major league player would be more realistic I think.
I'm not sure if Greinke is 'legit' though, he had one amazing season plus a few decent ones. I don't think he's even a top 15 starter in the league right now, but if I wanted to acquire him I suppose I do it now rather than later on the condition that he signs an extension since I think he'll have a good enough season to put himself a notch below the halladay/lee/sabathia category. At that point he'll either cost 3 top prospects or close to a 100M on the market.
Gordon is a very interesting idea. He's got good bat speed at a pretty swing from what I recall, don't know much about his defensive abilities. The Royals probably overvalue him a bit, so I don't see him being moved just yet.
