He is said to be seeking a multy year deal, and there are 3 teams interested.

If he doesn't sign one of these contracts tonight, he will accept Blue Jays arbitrations.

This is interesting. I think he'll sign a multi with someone else then. The reason he would say what he did is to put pressure on the team's to deliver a good contract, otherwise they will lose him to the jays tonight. If he just declined arbitration he loses that bargaining chip and the other teams could come in lower tomorrow. Smart move by Frasor and his agent.

Thanks for source! I forgot lol

And yeh, I'm new to this whole process but it seemed like he was using it more like a chip. I wonder who will surrender their first round pick for him? Hopefully it is a first round pick...

Any ideas on which teams?

It will be a team like the Yankees who will sign two free agents better than him so we only get their 3rd round pick...again.

Frasor accepted the Jays offer. He'll be back next season.

Damn....too bad. I guess the other teams weren't so serious. Frasor and his agent called their bluff and they didn't come through with a decent deal i guess.

This one would have been sweet for those 2 picks.

Not a shock...there was always a good chance that he'd take arbitration, as there are quite a few relievers on the market. He'll likely close, and we'll try to peddle him mid-season or try the arb route again next year.

do we know what Miguel Olivo did yet? a report came out couple of days ago that he was likely gonna accept arby but that seems crazy to me, Olivo should get a solid multiyear deal in thsi market

hah, as soon as i type that, this comes out

From JP Morosi:

"Miguel Olivo will decline the #BlueJays' offer of salary arbitration, source says. They're going to get that draft pick! #Toronto #MLB"

Of the three, he was most likely to come back and accept. Which is fine, we will get picks for Downs, Gregg and Buck for certain.

Heh, works for me...assuming Downs goes to a good team that signs one or more FAs, we're looking at:

- the 21st pick;
- one around 35-40 for Downs;
- three in the 40-55 range (too lazy to check the Elias scores) from Buck, Olivo and Gregg;
- one around ~75, probably another in the 80s from Downs (could be as late as 115 if the team signing him gets two higher-ranked type-As).

Not quite the eight picks that we had in the top 93 last year, but seven in the same range still gives up a great shot at adding talent. Given that we're already had 14 B- prospects or better in Sickels' rankings (which remarkably doesn't include Hech, Marisnick, Alvarez, Jenkins or Carreno), we're going to be scary-deep, and it hasn't really cost us much.

unfortunately one of our rivals The Tampa Bay Rays are setting themselves up for an epic draft, they could have as many as 10 first round draft picks

Yep...their brief window closed when Crawford left, but they are going to be pretty scary in three years. And far more scary if they manage their youngsters well; with the trend towards buying out 2-3 years of a guy's free agency before they ever hit arbitration, it's going to be a little easier for them (and us, for that matter) to lock in those guys and have a shot at some sustained success.

Tampa Bay is going to be a very scary team even come this year. Even though they're gonna lose Crawford, Pena and Soriano, they have up and coming players that could arrive to their team as soon as this season like Desmond Jennings who experts feel he's a Carl Crawford clone with more Derek Jeter patience at the plate, Jeremy Hellickson who's been a solid minor league pitcher who hasn't gotten the praise that he deserves, and SS Tim Beckham who was the first overall pick in 2008 NBA Draft. I think that they'll look to trade James Shields for probably more power in their lineup and may look to putting Hellickson in the rotation. There are rumours that they're also looking to trading Jason Bartlett.

But will they go overslot for elite talent? Some of their well drafted players were picked in top spots, while this time they have lower slots, which means they have to go overslot to land the good picks. I'm not sure if they are willing.

With the arbitration deadline passing, we now have a fairly good idea of how the first round picks will shake out. Below the jump is a preliminary draft order if all Type A and B FAs sign MLB deals:

First Round

1. Pirates

2. Mariners

3. Diamondbacks

4. Orioles

5. Royals

6. Nationals

7. Diamondbacks (for failure to sign 2010 first-rounder Barret Loux)

8. Indians

9. Cubs

10. Padres (for failure to sign 2010 first-rounder Karsten Whitson)

11. Astros

12. Brewers

13. Mets

14. Marlins

15. Brewers (for failure to sign 2010 first-rounder Dylan Covey)

16. Dodgers

17. Angels

18. Athletics

19. Red Sox (from Tigers for Victor Martinez, Type A)*

20. Rockies

21. Blue Jays

22. Cardinals

23. White Sox

24. Red Sox

25. Padres

26. Rangers

27. Reds

28. Braves

29. Giants

30. Twins

31. Yankees

32. Rays

33. Phillies

Supplemental First Round

34. Nationals (Adam Dunn, Type A)

35. Blue Jays (Scott Downs, Type A)

36. White Sox (Paul Konerko, Type A)

37. Red Sox (Adrian Beltre, Type A)

38. Red Sox (Victor Martinez †, Type A)

39. Rangers (Cliff Lee, Type A)

40. Twins (Carl Pavano, Type A)

41. Rays (Carl Crawford, Type A)

42. Rays (Rafael Soriano, Type A)

43. Rays (Grant Balfour, Type A)

44. Phillies (Jayson Werth, Type A)

45. Diamondbacks (Aaron Heilman, Type B)

46. Diamondbacks (Adam LaRoche, Type B)

47. Brewers (Trevor Hoffman, Type B)

48. Mets (Pedro Feliciano, Type B)

49. Rockies (Octavio Dotel, Type B)

50. Blue Jays (Miguel Olivo, Type B)

51. Blue Jays (Kevin Gregg, Type B)

52. Blue Jays (John Buck †, Type B)

53. White Sox (J.J. Putz, Type B)

54. Red Sox (Felipe Lopez, Type B)

55. Padres (Yorvit Torrealba, Type B)

56. Padres (Kevin Correia, Type B)

57. Padres (Jon Garland, Type B)

58. Giants (Juan Uribe, Type B)

59. Twins (Jesse Crain, Type B)

60. Twins (Orlando Hudson, Type B)

61. Yankees (Javier Vazquez, Type B)

62. Rays (Joaquin Benoit †, Type B)

63. Rays (Randy Choate, Type B)

64. Rays (Brad Hawpe, Type B)

65. Rays (Chad Qualls, Type B)

The bolded names have already signed big league deals, so their compensation is guaranteed. The Red Sox will receive the Tigers first round pick unless they sign Jeter, Rivera, Soriano, or Werth.

The Type As will also fetch the highest available draft pick from the signing team to their former team. If a team signs more than on Type A the team with the higher Elias-rated FA will receive the higher pick.
