"I'm still continuing to mature as a baseball player and as a person as well," Lawrie said Wednesday during a conference call. "I'm still a young guy and those pictures were just something that happened a long time ago, a couple of them three or four years ago, on Halloween night. It was just one of those Halloween things.

"And obviously, it's something I'm maturing about and I know it won't happen again. I can promise that."

Glad that he sees how much of a tool he looked like, and how it's a terrible first impression. I'm 22, and I can say without a doubt that I've got stupider pictures than Lawrie. He's 20, lets cut him some slack!

Agree, didn't see anything wrong with the pictures for him to be consituted a douchebag. Ok the tattoo was pretty f'd up, but whatever haha.

Apparently those pictures aren't even recent - from 3-4 years back.

so those pictures were 3-4 years old and some of you guys were making judgements about a person's character based on a couple of photos when he was a 16/17 year old?

Those pictures have been made a way bigger deal then they actually are, one he's with his fiancee, a couple he's drinking at a party and two r of his tattoos. Pretty sure if u go on any persons facebook from the ages of 16-mid 20's your going to pictures just like that and many are going to be much worse than that.

LOL. Not sure pounding the beers as a 16 year old is all that redeeming.

Not that I give a flying fidoo about the pics...

I am not trying to hate on the guy, I am 22 and its completely fair for this guy to take part in his drinking activities just like any other person, but one of the pics posted on drunkjaysfan (search for it on google if you have not seen it before, hilarious take on the Jays, with some really great points), the one where he has his hand duct taped to a liquor bottle, its dated 02/06/2010.....which would be this year not 3-4 years ago on Halloween...

Now someone could have photo shopped that in, or maybe the camera was not set properly, I know mine isn't....but if it really is 2010, he didn't need to lie and say 3-4 years ago, should have just said he shouldn't not have let pictures like that become public, things of that nature will not happen ever again in such a manner, he is growing up etc.

As long as he doesn't have team chemistry issues and as long as he produces at the plate and at defence, I don't care if he does in his private life or what he posts on Facebook/Twitter. It's none of my business and it's not my concern.

Who he is as a Blue Jay and what he does on the diamond are my only concerns.

The Pics are obviously not 3-4 years old, no 16 year old looks like that. They're less than a year old.

...I gotta say though, douchiness aside, if you can get abs like that, you're probably a pretty damn hard worker.

Wow, for him to be mature enough to denounce those pics is great for us. Maturity is one of those things you can't make happen...you just have to wait for it.

anyone want to bet that those pictures weren't uploaded 3-4 years ago?

dude made a recent mistake, now he's lying about it. who cares, really. if he's a douche and it shows w/his play or treatment of fans, then i'll care. otherwise, as long as he doesn't spill his Eminem tat on my lap or get douchy near me, i couldn't care less about his life.

he's not Derek Jeter banging Mariah up the cornhole in the bowels of Yankee Stadium (true story, apparently).

Naw man. Didn't drink till I was around 21. And it was mostly the (hard) underage drinkers on my baseball teams growing up that seemed to flame out in the end (present company excluded Ozz! ;)) Anyway, I really couldn't care about these photos -- the more important fact is that Brett seems to care and calls them regrettable. IMO, that shows a recognition of the importance of focusing on baseball and being a good representative of a team making multi-million dollar decisions contingent on his performance on the field. He's a professional now. No doubt a bigger than normal responsibility for a young guy, so obviously he gets a fair bit of slack.
