Greinke traded to Brewers for just about everything

ESPN.com's Jayson Stark heard from sources Monday that the Yankees and Rangers are not good fits in a potential trade of Zack Greinke.
The Royals have amassed an immensely talented farm system and may only be a few years away from introducing a lot of their young stars-to-be. With that in mind, Kansas City GM Dayton Moore is trying to gather youngsters that fit on that same plane of near-future success, especially from a position standpoint. The Royals have a ton of pitching talent, a future stud catcher in Wil Myers, a future slugger in first baseman Eric Hosmer, third baseman Mike Moustakas and catcher Wil Myers. They want second base, shortstop and center field prospects that are a year or two away from the big leagues and the Yanks and Rangers simply don't have them. Stark says the Blue Jays, Nationals and Brewers all have

We just got one of those in the Marcum deal. Kinda makes sense anyways if we can keep Travis and Kyle as well as get Greinke that would be ideal.

Do they want all three positions in a Greinke deal though? If so, what type of package would we have to offer?

A package of 1 of (D'Arnaud/Arencibia/Perez) + 1 of (Marisnick/Gose) + Zack Stewart?

That won't work in it says in the article they have a future star catcher and loads of pitching talent.

IMO it would have to be something like 1 of Marisnick/Gose + 1 of Lawrie/Hech and one other good prospect maybe they do take a Stewart to add to their pitching prospect but 2 of those first 4 r the starting point i believe

Follow-up question: All things considered, is Greinke worth it?

Depending on who we give up. He's still very young talent. If we get him we would be more inclined to prob spend a little money for another position.

BTW theres no way AA gives up Gose, he has too many high hopes for the kid. Lowrie will most likely be part of the deal with others.

Kansas needs help in the outfield, hence the Brewers name probably being attached to Greinke. If they're dangling Lorenzo Cain or Mat Gamel this would probably entice them.

Royals have Wil Myers as their future so the catcher position isn't as dire for them as it is an outfielder. I'm pretty sure Snider is the piece the Royals really want, and not Drabek, though they probably are asking for him as well. They probably want Adeiny Hechavarria as well.

I doubt Lawrie goes. AA has said they have coveted him since the draft when he was selected by Milwaukee one spot before the jays.

I'm kind of souring on the whole Grienke thing. They just sound like they want too much for him. I don't think AA is prepared to part so quickly with all the 'high ceiling' young talent he is accumulating. The farm system is just not mature enough yet for this kind of transaction.

Let them eat Grienke and another $27mm. I don't know that his market value is as high as what they want. He's been a good pitcher, throws hard, but i've never liked his frame for the kind of power he throws. He's not as solid as Halliday. He's not unlike Burnett in frame when he came over. I never liked that signing either. These wiry kids that throw so much heat...something usually gives sooner or later. I think there's physical risks going forward with Grienke (and the panic disorder just complicates things further), and i certainly wouldn't give him an extension on the 2 years remaining. So how does it make sense to give up so much young talent for a 2 year rental? Just think i would give this a pass unless you could grab him much cheaper, but it doesn't sound like that is going to happen.

We don't need Grienke, we have enough pitching depth already. We need to hang on to our limited positional depth. We are just not good trading partners.

That's the concern too about aquiring Greinke, if we can make sure he will sign and extension with us then it would be a no brainer to try to pursue.

i'll say wait 2 years then sign him. that way we know that he's not a fluke and he'll be a FA to sign a longer contract

A CF, SS, and 2B?

Geez, they drive a hard bargain, but I'll be fair and offer them Vernon Wells, John MacDonald, and Aaron Hill. But that's as far as I'll go. Take it or take it, Royals.

Royals are gonna suck anyways....they should just take what we give. I'm honestly surprised they haven't been moved out of KC.

Dont overpay for a guy who will leave in 2 yrs. Id pass on him. Greinke always seemed inconsistent to me. If you give up a lot, you need to get a safe return on investment.

I wonder if the Jays will make a push for Greinke now that the Yankees have been shut out of the pitching market.
