Hope Rogers understands that some of these cheap rookies turn into highly paid young vets before you even know it. I hope one of our coming crop says, "there is no better place on earth for me to play than that beautiful stadium called Rogers Centre."

CarGo isn't a homegrown player for the Rockies. He was signed by Arizona, then traded to Oakland in the Haren deal, then to Colorado in the Holliday deal. Two major trades and yet he was a relative throw-in in both. I picked him in the 10th round and got #1 fantasy player value last year so CarGo is the man. The Rockies were definitely right to lock him up, but they probably did a year too early. His .384 BABIP was insanely high which masked the fact that his plate discipline is well below avg. His OBP is tied very closely to his AVG. He has been steadily getting less strikes thrown to him while also swinging more, which is not a good combo. He actually gets more fastballs thrown to him AWAY from Coors, the reason for which is explained nicely here: http://www.athleticsnation.com/2010/8/8 ... a-mountain. He will still be worth his contract considering that he was worth $24m last year alone. Even as his BABIP settles into a .330-.340 range, he should put up at least .300/.340/.550 because he of his line drive swing and power.

He had pretty damn good season but I'm not quite sold on his bat for some reason. I always think it's a mistake to give anyone a big contract after one good season. This kind of makes me compare him to Adam Lind but even if he has a sub par year with his bat (which would be shameful since he plays at Coor's) he'll probably earn at least some of it just from being a good defensive player.
