Lawrie making move to 3B

In this question-and-answer session with minorleaguebaseball.com, Brett Lawrie indicates he'll probably move from second base to third base. Lawrie was traded by the Brewers to the Blue Jays in December for right-hander Shaun Marcum.
At the time, I wrote that many considered Lawrie headed to either a corner infield or corner outfield spot. It appears Toronto already has decided his future is at third base. Lawrie has the bat to play third but is not a home-run hitter per se.
One quote from Lawrie in this interview that I thought was particular interesting came when he was asked about playing for a team in his native Canada. His last sentence in that response is: "It's the first time I've felt welcome in a long time."
Not sure what Lawrie meant by that. The Brewers drafted him in the first round in 2008 as a prep catcher out of Canada and immediately granted his wish to move to second base. They let him participate in several international events for Canada and had him on the fast track in their system, pushing him to Class AA Huntsville at age 20 in 2010.
I've heard Lawrie wasn't happy that he didn't get a September call-up by the Brewers, and he did later back out of an assignment to the Arizona Fall League. There just seems to be something amiss in his relationship with the Brewers, and perhaps that was one of the reasons they were willing to trade him to the Blue Jays for Marcum.
Anyway, just passing along this interview for those who are interested.

It's interesting to note that the Brewers drafted him one slot ahead of the Jay's pick that year. Its likely that the Jays had been in touch with him pre-draft and perhaps he was anticipating being drafted by the jays, which it sounds like he would have welcomed, but got scooped by the Brewers before we had a chance. So maybe from the start he was disappointed with where he was playing. Just speculating here.

Ya not very impressed with his refusal to skip the afl.
Though it may have weighed on our ability to acquire him.
Setting that aside, I'm optimistic about his chances to transition to 3b. Based on what I have read/heard about him, that seems like the more appropriate spot as opposed to RF or 2B.

I hope this is an indication that Aaron Hill is staying here throughout our contending years

That's fine too, but more important to me is finding a "fit" for our 2nd rated prospect. To me, and I'm no professional scout

, but Brett never projected as a 2nd baseman. Give him a defined area of responsibility over there at 3rd and let him work to perfect it while hitting line drives for the next 12 years. I think this kid can manage at 3rd. Make that commitment/give the kid a defined career path and now the team can work on other areas...

Is David Wright a fair comparison for Lawrie?
