Breakout Player This year????
The past few years we have had a player bust out for a big year. Last year obviously it was Jose, a couple years ago it was Lind and Hill, but who this year??
Me personally i'm hoping for a big breakout year from Snider. What's everyone think?

I'd say Snider has to break out. It would be nice if he could take over the cleanup spot from Wells.

Expect big things from Snider with Bautista protecting him.
Morrow, Romero & Cecil also will breakout this year.

On the hitting side: Snider, if he can stay healthy.
On the pitching side: Morrow. He could be the league strikeout champ this year, even if they limit him to around 170 IPs. I look for 15 wins from him this year.

Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

One guy i think that could surprise this year if he gets the chance is Zach Stewart. He always gets forgotten behind Drabek, but if he gets the chance i think he could do some big things. It's really up to him tho with how he performs in the spring and i guess an injury would help him along though i don't wish that upon anyone. Keith Law said last night on bob mccowns(spelling?) show that he has some of the best sink on his fastball out of any of the top 100 prospects.

Snider for sure in the hitting department.
Among the pitchers, i see Mark Rzepczynski, i think he's gonna be the best pitcher on the staff behind Morrow.

Wow, that's a brave prediction but certainly possible.
I think Morrow busts out into a front line starter and Snider hits 30 HR.

Re: Breakout Player This year????
The main breakout candidate for me is Brandon Morrow. He got better as the season went on, and he has all the signs of a huge breakout (fantastic K numbers, limits the long ball, difficult to hit, etc). Just keep that arm healthy and work on command and he has legit ace potential.
Snider is a good choice, and while not technically in the "breakout" category since he is already established, I think Escobar will have a big bounce back year.

All these guys mentioned are good candidates. I would add EE. He tore the cover off the ball coming down the stretch last year. If he can settle into the 1st Base/DH role and stay healthy, i think he could put up very big numbers.

I say Morrow will definitely beast this year but I think my pick will be Rajai Davis. I think he could be a Devon White kind of pickup.
When we got Devo no one really expected big things from him and he became a big part of the championship parade years.
Davis is fast good dfensively and will hopefully get on base a lot in the leadoff position.
Devo V2.0

A bit crazy considering Ricky Romero's presence as the current best pitcher on the Jays.
To do this, first Marc Ryzepcynski actually has to get a shot in the rotation, which he hasn't gotten yet and may not get.

Rzep rookie season was better than Romero's or Cecil's, he was gonna eclipse those guys in 2010 if he didn't go down with that absurd injury . He only got fully healthy and fit in the final month and his stats looked pretty good and then he destroyed the AFL in his 30 inning stint there. He clearly wasn't healthy for more than 2/3s of 2010. I like Romero a lot but Rzep and him are very similar pitchers. Rzep has put up better K numbers in the minors than Ricky and probably showed slightly better control too. Even though he was injured or out of shape for most of the season, he still comfortably struck more people out than Romero
He'll earn a spot in the rotation for sure, Drabek will probably be held off until the super two deadline passes and even if he isn't Rzep should win a spot in the rotation over Jessie **** Litsch

No, Rzep's rookie season was not better than Romero's. He pitched 61 innings...that's not enough to say much about any pitcher.
Romero's relative durability and experience at this point puts him far above the level of Rzep, and he should be expected to continue to improve on his 4 WAR level, not decline.

To me, judging by some of Farrell's comments, it looks like Drabek and Litsch are being considered the favorites. But I suppose it will all come down to ST.

maybe but his three seasons in the minors where he outperformed Romero at every level IS enough to make judgements. Go look at the stats yourself, Rzep has more strikeouts, gives up fewer walks and fewer homeruns. That 61 innings was a good enough sample of his talent, there was nothing fluky about them, it was expected based on his minor league numbers

Rzep is not injury prone, he had a freak accident when he broke his finger(or was it his wrist) when he was fielding a groundball, its a non-issue
