Last October Jose Bautista hopped on the surgeon’s table and surprised the hell out of quite a few people. He had a sports hernia (or, if you want to get all specific, an inguinal herniation).

Like most guys, I just assumed he’d gone to the doctor’s office for a checkup, turned his head and coughed, and out came the doc’s prognosis: Better get that taken care of Jose, those things can be a bitch to play with. But as it turns out, us guys would be wrong.

According to FoxSports’ Jon Paul Morosi, the injury occurred while diving for a ball back in April. Prior to May of last year, the man who’d go on to earn the nickname “Joey Bats” had hit a grand total of four round-trippers. That means post-hernia he went on to slug an even fifty homeruns…

“His teammates knew, of course. They saw him undergoing treatment for 90 minutes on many days during the season. There was no need to go public with it, Bautista said. I’m not trying to get sympathy, and I was playing well.”

Playing well, Jose? If you say so... can't wait to see what you can do on a hot-streak.

It's like that movie Rookie of the Year when the kids breaks his arm and can throw 110 MPH.

He got it fixed, he'll hit 16 homeruns again.
