Devastating blow for the Cards -- looks like he's done for the season.

St. Louis Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow and will miss the entire 2011 season, general manager John Mozeliak said Thursday.

Adam Wainwright is just one of four pitchers the past two seasons to have at least 400 strikeouts and an ERA under 3.00.

Sucks for the Cards. Hate to see another pitcher go down to Tommy John.

His loss leaves the team with a big hole in a starting rotation that for now includes Chris Carpenter, Kyle Lohse, Jaime Garcia and Jake Westbrook.

You take Wainwright's name out of that rotation and it starts to look a lot uglier than I would've thought. I know a couple had solid years last year, but that does not look like anything close to resembling a playoff quality rotation to me. That's one Carpenter flare up away from being downright terrible. Of course most clubs would be in that position if they lost their top 2, but STL management has to be scared out of their wits already and camp just started.
