Are they watching his innings again this year? Disappointing for sure, but does that mean our 3/4/5 will be Drabek, Reyes and Litch

This is not good, a lot of TJ injuries start with guys being placed on the DL with this exact same injury.

OK, could be a helllllllllllll of a lot worse. This still sucks though, as I was gonna pick up tix for the 2nd game of the season which I was assuming would be Morrow's to start.

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Brandon Morrow will reluctantly open the season on the disabled list with a strain in the flexor muscle of his right elbow, but is expected to miss only one start.

“It sucks because I think I can go,” Morrow said after learning that he would be placed on the DL for precautionary reasons.

A Jays official described the injury as a forearm strain. Asked the focal point of the problem, Morrow pointed to the inside of his elbow.

Morrow felt the strain during a recent bullpen session while throwing his changeup and thought little of it, but decided to advise the training staff. An MRI revealed inflammation, which is not considered serious, but general manager Alex Anthopoulos said the Jays want to take a conservative approach to ensure a quick and full recovery.

According to John Lott the rotation to start the year will be: Romero, Drabek, Cecil, Reyes, Litsch.

I wonder why the team didn't stick Rzep in the rotation and Reyes in the pen. I guess they really do not like Rzep as a starter.

Sucks about Morrow. When I read "elbow" my first thought (especially with Toronto's recent history and pitchers in general) is TJS, but I hope I am just overreacting.

“Brandon was just making his case that he feels good,” Jays' GM Alex Anthopoulos said. “It's one of those things where we're being extra cautious. Especially with the ability to backdate the disabled list. Really, we're talking about him missing a start. He is adamant that he can go. We just want to let everything calm down for four or five days. Why try to rush when it's only one start.”

Smokescreen.

I think he's fine. It allows the Jays to reduce Morrow's innings by one game (something they openly did last year and may still want to more subtly do this year) while allowing all 3 kiddies to break with the club - giving management a start or 2 to decide which 2 they want to keep.

(conspiracy theorists unite!)

The move seems to make sense. I don't think Morrow can pitch a full year of innings anyways. Also, gives Reyes and Drabek (and Litsch) a start each and buys the organization a bit more time in determining roles and/or persuing trades (but nice to have all these guys for contingencies like this!)

Hopefully he's ok. It may be just one game, but who knows.

When I first heard about it thought it was something else as well. With JoJo Reyes out of options, this move gives them extended time to try and work out a trade.

Walton just confirmed that it's just precaution - good to know.

Thank god it's nothing serious. I like that the club is being extra cautious about this.

LOL no. Drabek and Litsch have already pretty much locked up 4/5. The guess is that Jo Jo Reyes gets a start in Morrow's absense and he gets demoted when Morrow returns.

Yeah I would also assume jojo is sent to the bullpen for relief.....cant send him back to the minors (he will get picked up off waivers) and we will need him to make some starts due to injuries this year

I would be very pleased if they could work out a trade for Litsch.

Morrow, Romero, Cecil, Reyes and Drabek can hold it down till Stewart forces his way in, and we flip the next one.

Reason I said drabek is because he has options. And if you recall farrell during the game, he said it made sense to replace morrow with drabek in the 2 spot because it wouldn't affect the other rotations. Sounds to me that drabek didn't have a spot if morrow is healthy. So I would have to think drabek is the odd man out with morrow back.

Plus if jo-jo goes to the bullpen, then who in the pen is going to get sent down?
