UPDATE, 4:30; Rays Longoria said AK-47 stolen from spring house was a "personal item," declined to discuss further.
"It's a personal item," Longoria Monday afternoon, before the Rays game against the Yankees at Steinbrenner Field. "Obviously they're going to say things that are taken. I think everything within the house is personal and we'll just leave it at that."
Longoria, speaking for about two minutes in front of several TV and print reporters, said he wants to put the burglary behind him and move on.
"It's definitely something that obviously you never want to have happen to you or your friends," Longoria said. "It's twice in the past month and a month and a half for me that something has been taken. I think all of us happened that justice is served for them and I think we're all just happy that everybody is safe and nobody is injured and we have an opportunity to move forward."
UPDATE, 2:54: Longoria's stolen weapon was an AK-47 rifle, and was "perfectly legal" according to the sheriff's office.
UPDATE, 12:20: The weapon belonged to Longoria, according to the sheriff's office, but "detectives at this time are not releasing the type of weapon.''
DEVELOPING: The Charlotte County Sheriff's office said today that the break-in and burglary at the Port Charlotte rental home of Rays players Evan Longoria, David Price and Reid Brignac came through an unlocked window.
Also, that the items stolen were valued at nearly $56,000 and included jewelry, cash, computer equipment, electronics, and a weapon. The Sherriff's office did not say what the weapon was or which player it belonged to.
