Jays getting new logo/uniforms in 2012?

Post#1 » by Flagrant Foul » Tue Apr 5, 2011 3:50 pm

I was listening to Prime Time Sports, a Toronto sports talk radio show. The host Bob McCown started talking about the Blue Jays uniforms. He said he had a "secret", and if you like the current Jays uniforms, go out and get one now, because they won't be around in 2012. He says there was a lot of "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" about this on Friday night at the Jays game. He said he doesn't know what they're changing to, but he speculates that they're going throwback, and going back to the "happy" Blue Jay logo. So it's clearly just a rumour, but it could be true. We'll have to wait and see.

Here is the link, they start talking about it around 16:30.

Would love if they changed everything back to how it was in 92' 92' including the same level of talent on the field.

But the old logo and uniforms is a good start

The Jays hired a branding firm last week.

Blah what a waste of money.

I could tell them in a matter of seconds what they need to do uniform and logo wise.

A new firm is bound to screw something up, no way they will settle for just changing everything back to how it was. They will want to put their stamp on the team and it will be a major fail.

We'll end up with some garbage alternate logo like this..

McCowan does have some in's with the organization....I believe him and i'm glad they're open to change. I actually don't mind their uniforms now, but I rather use blue as the dominant colour than black.

And that logo with the T and cartoony character has to go...

Well the other end of that is outsourcing it to the fans like they did for the 97 change. That logo was the winner of a contest (I submitted an awful drawing myself) and we got classic case of late 90s tackiness. Don't know who created the roidbird but that was way worse. Just get someone good to do it. Turbo_Zone, naturally.

That actually makes sense. Everyone was wondering why they got rid of the retro uniforms from last year after it was so wildly successful. I'm hoping they do a proper job this time and not mess things up like they have for the past 10+ years.

Something like this would be fantastic:

Just slightly tweaked from the original jerseys.

Plus the fourth jersey cap with the red bill is too awesome not to be made.

The link is incomplete, and can't seem to find it on the fan website. Can anyone provide a working one? edit* nvm, found it http://pmd.fan590.com/podcasts/pts/PTS- ... 4-4-pm.mp3

But yea, they straight up needa revert back to the early 90's look/colorway with a bit of a twist, yet keeping it classic. btw, I was actually gonna pick up a Romero jersey this week but after reading this, I think I'll opt to pick it up next year instead, granted this rumour is true and the succeeding jersey looks good.

and oh yea, there used to be a poster on here/raps board that had an avatar of something similar to the classic logo above, but modernized. It was pretty sick, can't seem to find it anywhere though.

Love the above minus the grey uniform. One of the white or blue uniforms should say "Toronto" instead.

The 4th alternate would be great on Canada day.

Agreed. Not gonna get my hopes up over this...wouldn't it suck so bad if we begin competing and winning sh*t and our jersey's look like total trash? lol

Yep, reminds of the Shoppers Drug Mart Promo from the back in the day...loved those hats. Those promos were amazing. Also was a big fan of the Mr. Sub duffel bags and I think Mr. Sub or Shoppers did an awesome velcro wallet.

Totally agree. I guess I'm a bit of a traditionalist but my preference is team name on home jersey, city name on away jersey. Rep the city when you're away.

That would be awesome. Wouldn't mind if the maple leaf wasn't there but it's ok like that as well.

Great, just when I buy a current jersey from the Jays store they want to change it. But if they change the uniforms again, just go back to the World Series days. I actually don't mind the current logo, but I feel they should never have changed it from the WS days. I don't know why they did. Keep it identifiable.

Change it back to the "glory days" or keep it the way it is. Changing it too many times becomes a pain for fans.

I wouldn't mind a return to something similar to the early 90s version, with one change (and I know that this makes me an apostate): the numbering/lettering. Make them solid colours rather than the three-stripe colouration and I'm happy.

Really the lettering either way would be fine, I just want the old logo back even if it's slightly tweaked.

I have always felt a team after winning a title should never again change their logo. Tweak it from time to time if need be, but never go away from the general concept.

Today's logo is too much of a change.

Blasphemer!

I've seen many variations of the original logo and it just doesn't work with solid block lettering. Not in anyway. Countless posters at Chris Creamer's Logo website and message board have tried and it just does not work.

Though if someone CAN make it work, I wouldn't mind as long as the logo is returned back to its original looks.

Surprised they would even think of changing the Jays jerseys. They haven't had these jerseys that long. But if they do end up changing them, then I hope they go back to the ones with the images by J. Kim.

That works for me, possibly with a slight-contrast outline (I'd add it, but new MS Paint is a dick about creating lines. Why **** with MS Paint, of all things!?).

I'm probably alone, but for some reason the lettering triggers my OCD.
