Jays Batting Order Needs Changing
Against the Angel's Weaver, yeah you can't expect much, but the middle of the line up is such a black hole right now. The team must look at changing the order a little to shake things up, and get mainly Snider going. I'm sick of seeing Snider at the back of the order throughout his young career so far. He doesn't hit well there at all - it's obvious. So my proposal (when JP is catching):
1. R. Davis
2. Y. Escobar
3. Snider
4. Jose clean-it-up Bautista
5. Lind
6. JP
7. Hill
8. EE/Nix
9. Rivera
When Molina is catching, put him 9th and move hill to 6th and bump everyone else down one.

Agree Snider needs to be closer to the top and always though Bautista should be clean up.

Re: Jays Batting Order Needs Changing
not sure if this is a factor, but maybe Farrell wants to put a bit of distance between the two lefties? I like the proposed lineup, but after Lind, there will be 6 straight righties until Snider comes to bat.
I can definitely see Snider in a more run-producing batting position later during the year

i was looking for justification.. if it "doesn't matter", then why have a lineup at all?
Davis stole over 90 bases the last 2 seasons combined, and the few times he's been on base, he's rattled the pitcher on the mound.

Raj Davis isn't getting on base (and doesn't have a great history of doing so either), that's why he should be #9. It's not such an issue right now, but If he's still here when this team actually becomes elite, he certainly better be hitting low in the order.

So much for all the preseason talk of what Rajai would add to the lineup.
We've had two games with the full lineup. First looked great, second was against Jared Weaver. I say we stay patient for now.

the regular season is just over 1 week long, and Davis should be moved to #9? wow you guys really do have a short leash, not to mention he's battling an injury.

Re: Jays Batting Order Needs Changing
Yeah the seasons a week old but that doesn't mean you cant try something that has a chance of working now. If your argument is that Rajai Davis will get better I wouldn't say you're wrong but if you are telling me you can't let it ride on players showing up early in the season then I would ask why? Why do we have to wait? We gotta do all we can now before boston wakes up.
So yea move Davis to 9th spot and let him steal bases and effect the pitcher from there. I don't see the difference.

I wanted him hitting ninth in the off-season. I just hate the idea of guys who can't get on base consistently hitting leadoff (and consequently getting the most plate appearances) especially when we have a guy in Yuni who has a .367 career OBP.

**** your asterisk.

Because he's an awful hitter. Some people tend to think spped=leadoff. This could be the case if you're at least an average hitter. Davis on the other hand swings at every freaking pitch going away. I watched him several times when he was in Oakland, and he used to chase outside slider every single atbat. Now until I got the chanse to see him everyday, I didn't know his eyes at the plate was this bad. He def needs to be removed from the leadoff spot when he comes back. I don't even think he's gonna start when he comes back to be honest.

Re: Jays Batting Order Needs Changing
I would like to see:
CF- Patterson (speed, power)
LF- Snider (try to increase his confidence, by moving him up)
RF- Bautista (clean up)
SS- Escobar (red hot start, you don't always need power in a "power slot")
1B- Lind (to take some pressure off him)
C - Arencibia (to split up Hill and Lind)
2B- Hill (to take some pressure off him)
DH- Encarnacion (no pressure)
3B- Nix/McDonald (no pressure)
Patterson and Snider can interchange at 1/2
Bautista and Escobar can interchange at 3/4
Arencibia and Encarnacion can interchange at 6/8
if i remember correctly:
1) Snider played well last year when batting 1st or 2nd
2) The 7th spot in the order last year was good to players who were previously struggling
3) I love the idea of having a on-base guy in a power slot, and a power guy slightly lower

Re: Jays Batting Order Needs Changing
espn quoting a scout on Rajai davis
But McLouth has looked like Rickey Henderson compared with another guy who had a promising spring, Blue Jays leadoff man Rajai Davis. He's hitting .156 with zero walks. "He's got no conception of the strike zone," said one scout. "He's just a one-zone guy -- belt, middle-in. And that's all he can hit, because everything's collapsing with his swing. I'd make a dramatic change with him, put him in a crouch and just make contact. If he makes contact, he could hit .280 just with his speed. But unless he plays to his strengths, I can't imagine him being very effective against good pitching with this approach."

Re: Jays Batting Order Needs Changing
Typical RD at bat this season: swing at a ball first pitch, take a strike down the middle 2nd pitch. His speed is very exciting when he gets on base but that's about it.

Might be ideal to platoon him with Patterson when he gets back.
