http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/04/b ... nment.htmlI guess loading the bases and walking home runners won't be tolerated anymore. So much for our closer of the future.

Total meh for me, although I guess it's better to have Janssen where he belongs. I haven't seen Purcey as an asset for a long time, so if he gets claimed I don't much care. I didn't even see the performance last night to get worked up over, but the guy is simply incapable of throwing strikes so regardless of his stuff, he's pretty much useless.

seems likely he'll be traded:
Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos told Barry Davis of Sportsnet that he expects to deal recently designated reliever David Purcey within the next ten days instead of allowing another team to claim the left-hander on waivers (Twitter link). The Blue Jays designated Purcey for assignment earlier today, which means they have ten days to trade him, release him or, if he clears waivers, assign him to the minor leagues.

Rzep's stretch in the pen just got extended indefinitely.... parole denied!

Really not a fan of Mills, but I'm guessing that his time on the club will be short...Reyes will probably become the second lefty in the 'pen once Morrow returns.
Sucks that Purcey couldn't hack it, but beyond his fastball velocity and an aesthetically-pleasing delivery, he really had nothing...his slider had the potential to be nasty, but without command of either it or the fastball it was a moot point.
Don't doubt that we'll find takers, however. He's left-handed and throws 93 MPH, so we'll likely get some sort of minor league reclamation project in return.

After pitching for 10+ years he still can't figure out how to throw strikes? Pitching must be a very obscure thing, and I don't mean that sarcastically.

Not really too concerned or too suprised by this move. Zep's been great so far this year and Reyes has shown that he belongs so that makes Purcey expendable. I doubt we get much back for him if we deal him, but i'm sure someone will claim him.

Hopefully they can get rid of Rivera at the same time.
I'm pretty comfortable with Reyes a in the pen with Rzep. At least they can both throw strikes. Also I think they're both going to be more effective 1x through the order before the other team can adapt to their pitches.

Purcey had more than enough chances with this organization. It's the right move.

Never a fan of Purcey. I don't care if we lose him for nothing. He's a junk.

Not surprised to hear AA is looking to trade Purcey. Farrell talked on the radio before last night's game and he sounded VERY disappointed in Purcey. The way he talked was like he didn't want anything more to do with him.

Astros interested in acquiring LHP David PurceyReliever David Purcey, a former first-round pick out of the University of Oklahoma in the 2004 First-Year Player Draft, was designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday afternoon, just one day after allowing three earned runs on two hits over one-third of an inning, as part of the team's eighth-inning meltdown against the Seattle Mariners that ultimately resulted in an 8-7 loss.
Toronto general manager Alex Anthopoulos later informed Sportsnet of his plan to trade Purcey, while Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun reported via Twitter late Tuesday night of the Houston Astros' interest in acquiring the 28-year-old left-hander.
Purcey went 0-1 with a 3.71 ERA while averaging 8.9 strikeouts per nine innings over 34 innings in 33 relief appearances last season.
His relatively young age and respectable fastball sitting in the low 90s, in addition to being a left-hander, plays into Purcey's favor.
He has a previous relationship with Astros pitching coach Brad Arnsberg, who tutored him in Toronto over his first two big league seasons.

The Blue Jays have 10 days to trade, release, or if he clears waivers, assign him to the minor leagues, but with Houston sporting two open spots on the 40-man roster, Purcey could potentially join Fernando Abad as another left-handed bullpen option.

Purcey's a Texas-guy right? Deal still not done... wonder if AA thinks there is a broader market.
