Mets Interested In Aaron Hill

Not exactly a typical news source, and a good chance nothing comes of it, but an interesting tweet from Sportsnet's Scott Carson (@Carson_MLBRSN):
"Sources say that when he's fully healthy, the #Mets have an interest in #Jays 2B Aaron Hill...what would come in return is up for debate."

Not-Hill would be a good start. Maybe we can get some minor leaguers?

I'd consider giving them Hill for Reyes... As a goodwill gesture to JP ofcourse

They should deal him while there's still interest.

I see no point of trading him unless they offer something absurd. It's not like picking up his options would be a gigantic risk or would significantly hurt us from our building plan, not to mention we don't have a decent replacement for him in our system that could come up within the next year or two.

I'd do lawrie, snider and hill for wright and reyes (both signed to extensions ofcourse). Maybe a pipedream but mets, financially, are desperate.

I'm fine with keeping Hill so unless we get 120%+ value for him why pull?

For me to consider dealing Hill, they'd have to offer Flores and Mejia.
Seems like a steep price to pay, but realistically I'm not really interested in much else the Mets have (excluding, of course, Wright and Reyes).
Flores could be moved to second (or Hech) giving us a very nice future infield with Lawire, Hech and Flores.
Mejia could give us a future stud closer, but because he's unlikely to be a starter, his value drops significantly. A one-two-three bullpen punch of Mejia, Stewart and Wojciechowski could be absolutely filthy.
With that said, it's pretty hard to see the Mets accepting considering Hills struggles lately, although maybe if we took on a bad contract they would be more willing to accept.
Just a thought.

The Mets might feel that a change of scenery will help out Aaron, and JP might lead the charge in trying to get him here

I'd defiantly be picking up Hill's option (2/16 i think) It beats signing a guy like Kelly Johnson to an absurd 4 year contract to replace Him.

I wonder what the chances of Hill qualifying for Type B status is?
His last year was junk, and this year is not better: so he'd have to tear it up going forward.

He'll need to play an awful lot of games, and be fairly good along the way. In 2010, he put up good numbers in HRs, FLD% and defensive chances, but was bad enough otherwise that his season didn't grade out well. However, 2B/3B/SS is the easiest category save catcher at which to achieve comp status, so I wouldn't write him off.
The bigger question is whether he would decline arbitration; with a salary of $5m this year, he could probably expect a slight raise in 2012 even after a poor year, and he might roll the dice at that rate and see whether he can springboard a good season into a higher-dollar multi-year deal.

Davis Wright says hello, the guy is a beast, a great power hitter, pretty quick around the base paths and is a solid defensive 3B men as well.
Of course Jose Reyes would be another quality player I would want, really quick, solid leadoff hitter or #2 behind Davis or Patterson, a good arm and a good solid SS who would work with Escobar plus he's what 26/27 that is still pretty young and he would be a great core piece. If you have the chance to flip Hill for either of those 2 guys you take it I think. Wrights deal is big and is for 7 years (according to Yahoo) but still he would be a monster #3 here. Just imagine a Davis/Escobar/Wright/Bautitsa/Lind/Rivera/JPA/Snider/MacDonald lineup that is deadly or whatever tweek is need add in Lowrie next year and man that team is going to be something on the offensive end.
I wonder what Hill's market really is or what the Mets would realistically give up for him.

Of course a deal centred around Hill for either Reyes or Wright would be fantastic and since it's the Mets I guess it's a possibility, but it's basically pure pipedream IMO.
I'd move Hill for prospects myself. I know we're all in a hurry to turn this bitch around, but I hope we're still in simple asset acquisition mode.
If there's a way to burn some big prospects with Hill to grab Wright, I do that in a cocaine heartbeat (thanks for that one Hoop), but so would every team that doesn't already have Longoria, Zimmerman, ARod, or the top 3B prospects like Alvarez or Moustakas already in the fold (and if they weren't broke ass franchises they'd move their prospects for him). So of the other 25 teams, I'm pretty sure they'd all be able to put together packages that trump anything based on Aaron Hill in a deal for Wright.

Wright only has one year remaining after this one, plus a club option in 2013; total remaining value is $31m.
He concerns me, though it probably wouldn't stop me from wanting him in the right deal. I'm not sure how many years of capably playing 3B he can manage (his defense in 2009 and 2010 was bad, and has been worse this year), his strikeout rate has been creeping up, and his walk rate has been declining. Tack on a five year, $100m contract or the like and one's buttocks clench ever-so-slightly.

Schadenfreude - Has Wrights defense dipped that much? I mean he's no, Chase Headley, Beltre, Longoria, Kouzmanoff or Zimmerman but I think he still is 1000x better then E5 I mean who isn't? If Toronto is serious about contending then I think if all it took was Hill + a small filler to get it done we have to get that deal done. Esp if the reports are true that Bud Selig wants more teams in the playoff's next year.
Oh course I would prefer the younger cheaper Jose Reyes I mean who really wouldn't?

He's better than E5, but he graded out as one of the worst defensive 3B in the NL last year.
But this "Hill + small piece for Wright or Reyes" stuff is entirely fantasy. They want Hill because they have a gaping hole at 2B right now, not because they value him highly enough to accept in return for Wright.
They would be looking for a premium package of young players, and it's against that return that we have to evaluate him; it's not a question of whether we should start making big splashes soon (we should) but whether he's the best allocation of those resources.

I'd want prospects for Hill, why are we going "win now" after we make moves to set up a long term build.
I'd take Wilmer Flores (SS) with fillers or even Aderlin Rodriguez with a few (B) level prospects.
