Why Was David Cooper Taken 1 Pick Ahead of Ike Davis?

What did J.P. Riccardi see in David Cooper that made him take the 1B one pick ahead of Ike Davis? Was it because of injury issues Ike Davis had that season or was it because of how much power he'd envision Cooper would have once he filled out his underwhelming 6 feet 200lbs body which probably was lower than that draft night? I've always been a big believer in David Cooper but I've always wondered what J.P saw in him .

A number of experts thought that he had even more power potential than Davis, and was a more finished product. That's prospecting.

A noble goal, but you have to keep in mind that good topics are ones that generate discussion. This thread wasn't going to get much response because there are only two answers...a statement to the effect that projecting players is tricky business, or bile-filled invective at Ricciardi from people who forget that projecting players is tricky business. Same holds for the Arencibia thread; it's a question that would be universally answered with some variation on "probably not", and there isn't much thread-worthy beyond that.
