JP's defensive issues are real

I hear some people try to defend him about this but hes been rather brual all season.
He is awful at blocking the balls and usually looks very lazy in the process. I like his power and leadership but his defensive skills are worrisome.
He just cost Kyle a run that inning with that Passed ball and possibly two runs.

It was a wild pitch. But yeah, he's often lazy about blocking balls. He has the skills to do it, though, it's about putting the effort in.

That was hardly a wild pitch. I dont even care how it was scored.
That ball was easily blockable but JP made a lazy play on it. When your pitcher is strugglin like Drabek was, that ball has to be blocked for the strikeout and not let the runners advance.
I dont see why some are so sensitive when JP's defensive shortcomings are brought up. I mean this has been the book on him basically all thruout the minors. I wouldnt be suprised if hes eventually moved over to 1B and D'arnaud is the fulltime Catcher.

That most definetly was not a wild pitch.

By definition, that's a wild pitch. Already agreed that Arencibia was lazy on it...that isn't anything new, though.

Who is sensitive? This is who he is right now, a great hitting catcher who is lazy on the defensive side of the game. That doesn't mean he isn't capable of learning or showing more effort.
Arencibia, though, isn't a good enough hitter to move to 1B. If you've determined that you don't want him catching for this team, he should be dealt.

Might want to look at the official scoring there.

So you agree with every single error scored?
Give me a break. The official scorer gets things like this wrong on a regular basis. Giving a guy a error when he shouldnt or calling it a wild pitch when it could have easily been called a passed ball happens so frequently. I dont care what it was scored. JP has a very healthy oppurtunity to keep that in front of him if he just moved his feet a bit.

There was nothing wrong in the way the play was scored. I don't disagree that JPA's lazy defense was much of the reason for it, have said it three times now. It seems like you're just looking for an argument that isn't there.

What do you know, another bad defensive play from JP that allows Gonzalez to get to 3rd.

It never hit the dirt. It hit JP's glove, and was a very catchable ball.
You may want to watch the game. It tells you a whole lot more than a box score could ever tell you.

Please, watch the game before making ignorant, uneducated posts.
Even Alan and Pat thought it was definetly a passed ball. Just because it was scored an error, doesn't necessarily mean it was.

The only ignorant, uneducated person here is the person that doesn't understand why the official scorer called it a wild pitch.

We should just sticky this and make it the complain about the young, rookie catcher thread.

Yeah, that makes sense, considering you can't even back up your opinion with a knowledgeable answer.

Perfect! While were at it, why don't we sticky another thread called "complain about the young-ER, rookie pitcher thread."
We all know how you feel about him.
He can't throw strikes and he hasn't been all year with his nibbling. They don't exactly have the depth to send him down right now with Litsch's injury, but something has to be done if this keeps up much longer.

Are you trolling me now?
I'm a fan of Drabek's talents and ability, I just think he's better served working on his game in the minor leagues right now (for several reasons). When he's ready and has his mind in the right place, you bring him back and give him another shot.
And again, by definition, Drabek's pitch was a wild pitch in the dirt. As an official scorer, you can't give a passed ball to the catcher on that play.

It didn't even hit the dirt! Why are you posting about something you are clearly uneducated about?
I'm not trolling. The thread you posted that in is second to the top of the page (excluding sticky pages). I read it, and I thought it was ironic considering what you have posted about JP.

You might want to watch the play again. The official scorer certainly didn't miss that aspect of it and called it correctly.

How was it ironic? I've criticized JPA for his defense and I've criticized Drabek for his inability to throw strikes consistently. Both are learning on the job in their first season. Only one of them, though, is producing value at the major league level right now.

Are we talking about the same pitch? It most definetly didn't hit the dirt.

Does anybody else want to chime in, set the guy straight about the pitch's location, and end this endless back-and-forth nonsense?
