Calling it now: we're ending the season last in the AL East
Watching this game, it is quite apparent how woefully untalented this team is. Pitchers that have regressed or underachieved and an everyday lineup that features at least 3 players that do not even belong on a mlb roster. This is far and away the worst team that we've fielded in a few years.
What I still can not wrap my head around is the fact that everyone knew and accepted that this was a "rebuilding" year, yet instead of rebuilding with all of our talented youth we are playing with washed up has beens and never was's. How is that a "rebuild?" I know it's almost taboo to criticize AA because overall he has done a great job, but his stubbornness and short sightedness is worthy of some criticism. This team is painful to watch.

Except they won't finish in last. There are about 7-8 teams worse than them in the AL and the Orioles are included among them.
Though if they did finish in last, it's not really anything to worry about. The team clearly isn't trying to win this season.

Welcome to baseball. Most teams suck or play ~.500 ball. And it's a pitcher's era too. We've been around .500 all season. It can get a lot worse.

I meant last in the AL East, sorry that I wasn't specific. I'll tell you what, wanna make a bet that we will finish behind Baltimore? If they do, you have to change your handle to "AA can do no wrong he is my God", if they don't, I will change mine to whatever you choose. Deal?
Back on topic, you completely ignored my main points; yes we all agree that this was a rebuilding year, but how exactly are you "rebuilding" when you're playing 30 something retreads who have no business being in the big leagues and are demonstratively worse than the players in the minors?

If we continue to trot out Rivera, Nix, Patterson, Hill, Davis, Encarnacion, McCoy etc. on a daily basis it will get worse, much worse. This team has very little talent.

While I don't really care about this season's W/L in general, I don't really see how we can make all the right moves next offseason so that we're playoff competitive next year (which is supposedly going to be THE year to do it)

I'll bet on the Orioles failing to win baseball games any time.
And I ignored them because I mostly agree with them. I see no reason for half of the scrubs they have still being on this team.

As bad as Baltimore is, we are worse. Yeah, I know how we did against them in Baltimore, but our overall talent is less than theirs. This Blue Jays team is wretched. Why not be wretched with the young guys? I just do not get AA's logic.

You need the has beens to fill the void while the prospects get some burn in the minors. If you don't this team would end up with the Delmon Young's, Chad Billingsley's and Gordon Beckham's.
Really what you're saying is damned if you do damned if you don't.

When the Orioles get elite players like Jose Bautista, Ricky Romero, and Adam Lind on their team, let me know.

And there are just as many if not more examples of young guys coming up early who played through their growing pains. These aren't babies, they're grown men being paid tons of money. Seriously, what is the point of Jason Nix playing on this team? A 3rd baseman in low A could just as easily strike out every plate appearance. You grow with the young guys and play through their mistakes. Not to mention fan morale and loss of revenue. If we're 15 games under .500 come August and still fielding this craptastic lineup, I guarantee you the attendance will be abysmal. But if we're 15 game sunder .500 and Thames, Lawrie, Cooper, D'Arnaud, Snider, etc. are in the lineup, hten fans will turn out to see the exciting young prospects. This is extremely shortsighted by AA.

Didn't realize three players made a team; very odd response. I'll see your Lind, Bautista and Romero and raise you a Jason Nix, Edwin Encarnacion and Fat Frank. We have 3 great players and about 10 that are down right awful. You're in denial about how bad of a team we are.

Please, if that were to happen, you'd be the first one to criticize AA bringing up these prospects too early and wanting them to be traded.
Please show me proof that people would come to the games if we're under .500 with all these prospects. You're just talking out of your butt right now.

That makes no sense at all, for the past 2 months I've been begging and pleading to dump the dead weight for the young guys. What is the point of "rebuilding" if you refuse to cal up all of the players that you would be rebuilding with/for? Why are you attached to Nix, Davis, Hill, Encarnacion, Rivera, etc?

They certainly make a team better than the Orioles, who have no elite players at all, a poor offense, and weak pitching.

You don't get it. I have no attachment to Nix, Davis, Hill, Encarnacion and Rivera. In fact, I hope to hell AA can flip these guys, and think everyone you mentioned will not be with the team next year. It's about letting the young guys grow and develop the confidence, win the minor league awards, etc. It makes for a much easier transition to the major leagues.
The only guys you'll see get called up early are usually the first round draft picks - the Ryan Braun's, Evan Longoria's, Matt Wieters. These are the guys that generally handle the pressure of coming into the majors part way through the season and finding success.
Tampa is doing the same thing with Desmond Jennings. HE looks like he's ready, but Tampa obviously thinks otherwise, hence them signing Johnny Damon.

Like I said, I believe that we are the worst team in the Al East, and barring any major moves, I expect us to end there at the end of the season. I'll bookmark the thread and comeback to it in Oct.

The fact that you believe that Nix, Encarnacion, Davis or any of these guys have any worth to any team in mlb, makes you lose a little credibility.
The fact that you just compared TB to us, and then compounded it by comparing Johnny Damon to Juan Rivera, Cory Patterson or Rajai Davis just removed all credibility.

Yeah, but your belief isn't based on facts or good sense (I mean...you're betting on the Orioles). In fact, it seems to be almost entirely a reaction to four bad hitting games in a row.
One flew east, one flew west, one flew over the cuckoo’s nest.
