Bautista moves to 3rd for the time being. This means Davis will still be out there swinging at junk.

Broken bones in the hand/wrist tend to be very tough for hitters. I'm guessing that he won't hit the majors until rosters expand in September, sadly.

Lawrie just tweeted he's been cleared to play by the Doc's. So return to Vegas and call up in a couple of weeks?

Cleared to hit in BP, not to play.

AA clarifies on Lawrie: he is cleared for BP, not games. Timeline unchanged. Says Lawrie is progressing very well.

I don't think they would move Bautista to 3rd only to move him back to OF after Lawrie comes up. I think Lawrie is coming in to play 2B and Hill's days as a Jay are numbered sadly, because I like Aaron Hill.

Lawrie cannot play 2B...Bautista will be moved back when Lawrie arrives. And Hill's probably gone, but that has more to do with his play than anyone coming through the system.

Wasn't he a 2B until he got moved to 3rd this past off season?

Yeah. He was moved to 3B because he can't play 2B; he'd be in the running for the title of worst defensive second baseman in the league.

Man am I ever excited to have Lawrie up. The Jays are already the 6th best run scoring team while getting almost no production out of third (save for the last few weeks of course).

I know it is supposed to be patient time, but it really feels like the Jays are close, looking forward to next year we have:
1) Escobar SS
2) Thames DH
3) Bautista RF
4) Lind 1B
5) Lawrie 3B
6) Snider LF
7) Arencibia C

And only a $60M dollar payroll. I know 2B and CF are hard spots to fill, but even if we get replacement level players at one of those positions, and a star at the other we're going to have a pretty serious offensive team. With a lot of payroll left to go out and get a 2-3 starter grade pitcher, and let them and Morrow/Romero battle out for who will be the ace. Our farm system will supply pitcher 4 and 5 (possibly Cecil and Drabek)

As long as we don't sign any of those guys to more than 4-5 year contracts, we can start a nice cycle (with our great farm system), of having a bunch of controllable guys with a couple higher contracts and contend for a decade.

Wow at this point it makes more sense to wait until September call ups...

Lawrie watch since returning to AAA:

22 AB's
8 hits
2 Doubles
1 HR
4 Runs
5 RBI's
5 SO's

his first day back was a double header where we went 0-7 with 5 SO's so he's getting that swing back following that outing. :) HR last night. So McCoy is here I suppose until the call up happens. Hopefully soon.

I keep reviving this thread, but the Sun speculates a call up for the Orioles series this week to avoid the media circus: http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Baseball/MLB/ ... 97236.html :D

Seeming likely that he will be called up for Friday's game in Baltimore... let's hope.

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
